ABSTRACT

In this study, nurses above the age of 20 years and working in General Hospitals located in the Gyeongbuk province were enrolled as participant. A survey was conducted to identify the relationship between types of health-eating, level of occupational stress, and degree of quality of life. An effective sample size of 120 was determined, and it was validated as a feasible count to perform the analysis by applying the PLS-SEM. We hypothesized that the physiological and psychological occupational stress levels vary according to functional, mental, and trendy types of health-eating lives and impact the degree of quality of life. This was evaluated using structural models, employing the bootstrapping method using the Smart PLS 3.0. Our results indicate that in the relationship between health-eating types and quality of life, the higher the functional health-eating type, the higher the quality of life. The association between job stress and quality of life showed that the higher the psychological work stress, the more negative the quality of life. Examining the association between the type of healthy eating and the quality of life revealed that the higher the functional health-eating type, the higher the quality of life. As a result of verifying the moderating effect of the difference in working period (less than 3 years/more than 3 years), it was found that the shorter the working period (less than 3 years), the higher the psychological stress.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate the smoking status among adult workers, and current status of sugar intake. METHODS: The survey included 500 men working in Gyeonggi-do from October to November in 2016. Questionnaire items covered their age, working status, smoking status, eating habits, eating behaviors, snack consumption status, habits and behaviors related to sugar intake. All data were analyzed by SPSS program (Ver. 23) and descriptive statistics was performed; a t-test, χ² test, One-way ANOVA and Scheffe test were used for post-hoc test. RESULTS: The study results showed that eating habits and behaviors of non-smokers were better than those of smokers. The frequency of daily snack consumption was the highest in smokers compared to and non-smokers. The smokers' favorite taste after smoking was ‘Sweet’. The average score of sugar-related nutrition knowledge was higher in non-smokers compared to smokers. Non-smokers had better recognition of ‘sugar reduction’, and smokers were more likely to eat sweet foods, respectively. On the other hand, non-smokers could observe that they were trying to control themselves for health reasons. According to the results of the study, non-smokers showed better eating habits and dietary habits and consumed less sugar. Also, it was found that non-smokers tried to drink more water than beverages and refrain from eating sweets to reduce their sugar intake. Further, the most of the bread, coffee and beverages were also consumed at a lower frequency by non-smokers compared to smokers. CONCLUSIONS: This study results showed that smoking and sugar consumption were closely related. Therefore, adult workers should actively promote and learn so that they can maintain healthy and suitable dietary habits through reduction of sugar consumption.

ABSTRACT

Hydrogen peroxide is commonly used as a disinfectant that has been reported to cause chemical colitis. We report a case of 49 year-old man who presented with chemical colitis caused by self-inflicted hydrogen peroxide enema. In the sigmoidoscopic examination, diffuse erythematous and edematous mucosal change with multiple ulcerations and easy touch bleeding was noted from the rectum to the proximal sigmoid colon. Abdominal computed tomography showed diffuse wall thickening of the rectum and the sigmoid colon with inflammatory and reactive change at surrounding. The patient was treated with NPO, intravenous fluid, and antibiotic therapy. On 5th hospital day, abdominal pain and bloody stool disappeared, and the patient started oral feeding. He discharged on 6th hospital day with fully recovered state.

ABSTRACT

With the increase in multi-cultural families, Korea is seeing a rapid increase in immigrated housewives, who are closely related to food culture. However, studies for the diet of multi-cultural families, which is most closely related to our lives have not been sufficiently researched. With this background, this study conducted research for immigrated women nationwide about food cultures to provide the possibility which Korean food culture would be developed harmoniously with various foreign food cultures. In this study, the immigrated women seemed to have adapted to Korean food culture quickly, but they showed differences according to some conditions like countries they are from and the time they have been in Korea. To achieve this, we need to conduct consistent and in depth studies for food cultures in multi-cultural families so that we can make healthy development in food culture, harmonious with traditional Korean culture.

ABSTRACT

The principal objective of this study was to determine how weaning by mothers of preschool children between the ages of five and seven years influences the children's eating habits and food preferences. The results of this study will help to educate mothers about good weaning practices and facilitate the development of weaning programs by providing basic data on the subject. The results demonstrated significantly positive correlations between children's scores on eating habits and the level of vigorous weaning practices, the consistency of their practice, and the child's reaction to the foods provided (p<0.001). A positive correlation was noted between the frequency of providing solid food and the preference toward the food, with the exception of boiled rice and brightly colored vegetables. Thus, the results of this survey showed that the frequency and variety of solid foods that mothers try to actively provide their young children affect their food preferences and eating habits in general. These conclusions suggest that mothers should be educated about the significance of proper weaning so that their children can develop appropriate eating habits, and that there should be nutritional education for mothers, regarding the best weaning practices.

ABSTRACT

Recently, we experienced a case of disseminated fusarial blood stream infection with varicelloid skin eruptions, who had suffered from persistent neutropenic fever after salvage chemotherapy for relapsed acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL). Neutropenia continued in spite of G-CSF and granulocyte transfusion, and he failed to respond to conventional amphotericin B initially, and then liposomal amphotericin B and voriconazole combination therapy. Disseminated fusariosis can be diagnosed by blood cultures in 50% of patients and present skin lesions in more than 80% of patients. So, typical skin lesions are important clue to diagnose of the disseminated fusariosis. However, many skin lesions in immunocompromised hosts are due to various infectious and non-infectious causes. So, this case shows that it is important to obtain biopsy specimens of skin lesions for histopathologic examination, culture and staining. Here, we present our case with the review of the literatures reported in our country, so far.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: We wanted to evaluate the detection rate of the artery of Adamkiewicz (AKA) by contrast-enhanced MR angiography (CE-MRA) and to compare the detection rate of AKA between the coronal source image plane and the sagittal source image plane. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between December 2004 and May 2005, 23 patients (9 men and 14 women. age range: 11-86 years, mean age: 43 years) who were examined by contrast-enhanced MRI for the purpose of evaluating spondylopathy were also studied by performing spinal CE-MRA. Spinal CE-MRA was performed with a 1.5-T system and with using 3D Fast field echo with a double dose (0.2 mmol/kg) of Gadolinium. Source images were obtained in either the sagittal plane (n = 11) or the coronal plane (n = 12) at random. The source images were reconstructed with multiplanar reconstruction and maximum intensity projection. Two radiologists, who were kept unaware of the source image plane, independently evaluated the CE-MRA with focusing on the AKA. The detection rate was evaluated and the difference of detection rates according to the source image plane was compared and analyzed. RESULTS: CE-MRA could demonstrate the AKA in 11 (47%) of the 23 patients. The interobserver agreement for detection was fair (κ=0.283). Among the 11 patients in whom the MRA was obtained with using the coronal plane source image, CE-MRA detected the AKA in three of them (27%); among the 12 patients in whom the CE-MRA was obtained with using the sagittal plane source image, CE-MRA detected the AKA in 8 of them (67%, p = 0.059). The AKA in 7 cases (63%) originated from the intercostal or lumbar arteries on the left side at L2 (n = 3), L1 (n = 2), T12 (n = 1) or T9 (n = 1), and on the right side at L1 (n = 1) or T12 (n = 3). CE-MRA with coronal slice orientation visualized the AKA in 8 (67%) of the 11 patients (p = 0.059). CONCLUSION: The detection rate of AKA by CE-MRA was 47%. By obtaining the source image in the coronal plane, the detection rate of AKA was 67%.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate utilization and storage management practice of the frozen and refrigerated foods in school foodservice. 222 dietitians employed in school foodservice were surveyed. In school foodservice, the refrigerated stock farm products and seafoods (78.3%) were more used rather than frozen products (47.5%). According to school foodservice characteristics, the refrigerated meats including dairy products were more frequently used in elementary and middle schools than high school foodservice. On the other hand, the foodservice in high school used more frozen seafoods and processed foods than elementary school did. The data also showed a tendency for the contracted foodservice using more frozen meats and seafoods rather than refrigerated products when comparing with the self-operated foodservice. In terms of receiving conditions, storage methods and storage time, the result indicated that frozen or refrigerated products were often delivered at inappropriate temperature. Especially some products which were needed to be shipped and stored at refrigerated temperature such as mollusks, were delivered and kept at room temperature. The most frequently used thawing method were running water (56.9%), however, the frozen products were often sitted at room temperature for the purpose of thawing. According to the results, several inappropriate handling processes for frozen and refrigerated products were found in school foodservice. In order to improve handling process for frozen and refrigerated products, recognition of food handlers' weakness about storage and distribution, development of radical standards for receiving conditions, storage and thawing methods should be debated.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To determine the accuracy of the intra-articular location of hyaluroinc acid injection using a blind approach and to establish the usefulness of fluoroscopy-guided intra-articular injection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A fluoroscopy unit was used for 368 intra-articular injections of hyaluronic acid to 93 knees in 65 patients. Initially, blind needle positioning was conducted on the fluoroscopy table. The failure rate of the blind approach among the 368 injections was evaluated, and a relationship between the Kellgren-Lawrence grade (K-L grade) and the incidence of repeated failures using the blind approach was determined for injections to 52 knees in 37 patients who received a complete cycle of injections (five consecutive injections with a one-week interval between injections). RESULTS: Using a blind approach, 298 of 368 trials (81.2%) resulted in a needle tip being placed in an intra-articular location, while 70 of 368 trials resulted in an extra-articular placement of the needle tip. Among 52 knees to which a complete cycle of injections (five consecutive injections with a one-week interval between injections) was administered, repeated failure of intra-articular placement using the blind approach was seen for 18 knees (34.6%); a more severe K-L grade assigned was associated with a higher rate of repeated failure. However, the trend was not statistically significant based on the Chi-squared test (p value = 0.14). CONCLUSION: Fluoroscopy-guided needle placement may be helpful to ensure therapeutic intra-articular injection of the knee.
