ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the impact of gender and body mass on stiffness of the medial and lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle. Methods Forty healthy subjects were recruited to measure the stiffness of medial and lateral head of gastrocnemius mus-cle,using a novel hand-held device MyotonPRO.The relationships between gender, weight and muscle stiffness were examined. Results The stiffness of medial and lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle was more in males than in females(t>2.523, P<0.01),and was positively correlated with body mass(r>0.322,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the stiffness between dominant and non-dominant legs for medial and lateral head of gastrocnemius muscle(t<0.851,P>0.05). Conclusion Gender and body mass ralate with the stiffness of medial and lateral head of the gastrocnemius muscle in healthy subjects, and the stiffness of both left and right sides is symmetrical in healthy subjects.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To investigate the value of joint detection of soluble triggering receptor expresses on myeloid cells-1(sTREM-1) and procalcitonin (PCT) in the early diagnosis of children with sepsis. Methods: 78 children with sepsis were selected into the sepsis group, 23 children with common infection were selected into the normal infection group. In addition, 25 healthy children selected into the health control group. The levels of sTREM-1, PCT, and C reactive protein (CRP) among the three groups were compared, respectively. And then, the sepsis group were further divided into general sepsis subgroup (32 cases), severe sepsis subgroup (26 cases) and septic shock subgroup (20 cases) according to the degree of sepsis. The levels of sTREM-1, PCT and CRP among the three sepsis subgroups were compared. And the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was adopted to analyze the value that diagnosed children with sepsis by using the three indicators. Results: The levels of sTREM-1, PCT and CRP of sepsis group were significantly higher than those of common infection group and health control group (t=22.071, t=21.508, t=17.870, t=55.167, t=52.070, t=30.359, P<0.05). The differences of sTREM-1 and PCT among various sepsis subgroups were significant (H=22.082, H=39.449, P<0.05), but the difference of CRP level between septic shock subgroup and severe sepsis subgroup was no significant. As the compared result of AUC of ROC of diagnosing sepsis, the AUC of sTREM-1 was maximum (0.88), and its 95% confidence interval (CI) was 0.78-0.98. At the optimum cutoff value of sTREM-1, the sensitivity and specificity were 83.33% and 68%, respectively, and they were higher than those of PCT and CRP, respectively. Besides, the cutoff values of sTREM-1 and PCT were used as standard to carry out joint diagnosis for children with sepsis, and the sensitivity and specificity were 91.03% and 64%, respectively, at this joint diagnosis. Conclusion: The joint detection of sTREM-1 and PCT has higher sensitivity in the early diagnosis of children with sepsis and it has a certain clinical application value.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate moisture content and hygroscopicity of spray dry powder of Gubi compound's water extract obtained at different spray drying conditions and laying a foundation for spray drying process of Chinese herbal compound preparation.

METHODIn the paper, on the basis of single-factor experiments, the author choose inlet temperature, liquid density, feed rate, air flow rate as investigated factors.

RESULTThe experimental absorption rate-time curve and scanning electron microscopy results showed that under different spray drying conditions the spray-dried powders have different morphology and different adsorption process.

CONCLUSIONAt different spray-dried conditions, the morphology and water content of the powder is different, these differences lead to differences in the adsorption process, at the appropriate inlet temperature and feed rate with a higher sample density and lower air flow rate, in the experimental system the optimum conditions is inlet temperature of 150 degrees C, feed density of 1.05 g x mL(-1), feed rate of 20 mL x min(-1) air flow rate of 30 m3 x h(-1).

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo investigate the effect of Qianlie Huichun capsular on Fas expression and cell apoptosis of prostate gland tissue in the model rat.

METHODHypertrophy of prostate model rat was established by injecting testosterone to gelding male rats. After being treated with Qianlie Huichun ig 30 days, the rats were killed and prostate glands were resected for examination. The Fas expression was examined by immunobistochemical SABC. The cell apoptosis and the peak of cell apoptosis in the prostate gland of the rats were examined by flow cytometry. Compared with model group, the weight of prostage gland tissue in groups treated with Qianlie Huichun capsular was light (P < 0.01).

RESULTCompared with model group, the Fas expression in all treatment groups increase(P < 0.05, P < 0.01). Compared with normal and model groups, cell apoptosis in all treatment groups increase at different level(P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe Qianlie Huchun capsular increases the Fas expression and cell apoptosis of model rats, and shows a definite treatment effect on the hypertrophy of prostate by promoting the apoptosis of prostate cell.
