ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the effect of safety bladder capacity catheterization on lower urinary tract function in patients with supracacral spinal cord injury. Methods:A total of 60 patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction after suprasacral spinal cord injury in our hospital from January to December, 2019 were divided into control group (n = 30) and observation group (n = 30) randomly. Both groups were given intermittent catheterization, the frequency of catheterization was determined according to postvoid residual volume in the control group, while it was according to safety bladder capacity in the observation group. Their maximum destrusor pressure, postvoid residual volume, safety bladder capacity, urinary tract infection and detrusor wall thickness were compared. Results:Eight weeks after intervention, the maximum destrusor pressure and postvoid residual volume decreased, and the safety bladder capacity increased in the observation group (t > 5.623, P < 0.05), and were better than that of the control group (t > 2.242, P < 0.05); the detrusor wall thickness significantly decreased in the observation group (t = 7.871, P < 0.05), and was lower than that of the control group (t = 3.049, P < 0.01). The number of urinary tract infection patients was less in the observation group than in the control group (χ2 = 4.320, P = 0.038). Conclusion:Intermittent catheterization based on safety bladder capacity can improve lower urinary tract function in patients with suprasacral spinal cord injury.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to observe the effects of doxycycline [DOX] on gap junction remodeling after MI and the susceptibility of rats to cardiac arrhythmia. The proximal left anterior descending coronary artery of rats was ligated to establish a myocardial infarction animal model. DOX, methylprednisolone [MP], or vehicle was intraperitoneally injected into the animals for two weeks. Then, the heart size and heart function of all animals were determined through echocardiography. The experimental animals were sacrificed after the electrophysiologic study. Myocardial tissues were sampled to analyze the distribution of Cx43 using immunofluorescence; the Cx43 content was analyzed using western blot analysis; and the MMP-2 and MMP-9 activity in the myocardium was analyzed using gelatin zymography. The distribution of Cx43 in the border of the infarcted myocardia in the MI and MP groups was clearly disrupted and the Cx43 content was significantly reduced. In addition, the distribution of Cx43 in the border of the infarct in the DOX group was relatively regular, whereas two weeks of DOX treatment significantly inhibited MMP activity. Meanwhile, the induction rate of arrhythmia in the rats after DOX treatment was lower than those in the MI and MP groups. The results show that DOX treatment after myocardial infarction improves gap junction remodeling in the myocardial tissue near the infarcted area by inhibiting MMP activity and reducing susceptibility to cardiac arrhythmia

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To observe the intervention effects of Liandou Qingmai Recipe (LQR) on atherogenic indices of plasma (AIP) and high-sensitivity c-reactive protein (hs-CRP) level in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD).</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Sixty-eight CHD patients were randomly assigned to two groups, 35 patients in the treatment group and 33 in the control group, all were treated by the regular CHD treatment, but to patients in the treatment group, LQR was given additionally. AIP value was calculated before and after treatment through measuring plasma levels of triglyceride (TG), high-density and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C and LDL-C). Besides, the levels of hs-CRP and peripheral blood leucocyte (PBL) were observed as well.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>No significant difference existed between groups in all the detected parameters before treatment (P > 0.05). After treatment, levels of LDL-C, HDL-C, hs-CRP and PBL lowered significantly in the control group, but the changes of AIP and TG were insignificant (P > 0.05); while in the treatment group, all the parameters lowered significantly, with the levels of AIP, TG, hs-CRP and PBL significantly lower than those in the control group respectively (P < 0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>LQR can decrease levels of AlP and hs-CRP in CHD patients, amplify the diameters of LDL-C granule, and further lower hs-CRP and PLB levels, showing anti-atherosclerosis and anti-inflammation effects.</p>
