ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo analyze the feasibility, reliability and validity of the disability assessment for dementia scale for the elderly. MethodsA total of 290 dementia patients from 17 survey sites in 13 districts and counties of Chengdu were enrolled by convenient sampling method, and they were assessed using demographic data inventory, Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), Neuropsychiatric Inventory (NPI), Physical Self-Maintenance Scale (PSMS) and disability assessment for dementia scale for the elderly. Cronbach's α coefficient, Spearman-Brown coefficient, Guttman split-half coefficient and test-retest reliability were used to evaluate the internal consistency of above scales. Criterion-related validity of the scale was analyzed based on MMSE, NPI and PSMS. ResultsA total of 276 patients (95.17%) completed valid questionnaires. The intraclass correlation coefficient of the total score and each dimension were between 0.828~0.976, the Spearman-Brown coefficient were between 0.790~0.917, the Guttman split-half coefficient were between 0.812~0.857, and the Cronbach’s α coefficient were between 0.737~0.886. The cognitive function dimension score was positively correlated with the MMSE score (r=0.948, P<0.01), the mental behavior symptom dimension score was positively correlated with the NPI score (r=0.893, P<0.01), and the daily living ability dimension score was positively correlated with the PSMS score (r=0.997, P<0.01). The dimensions scores were positively correlated with the total score of the scale (r=0.634~0.841, P<0.05). ConclusionDisability of dementia assessment scale has good feasibility, reliability and validity, which is a reliable tool to assess senile dementia and disability.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE To observe the effect of multimode comprehensive treatments on relieving discomfort during postoperative 7 days in patients after uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).METHODS A total of 60 patients who underwent UPPP were randomly divided into experimental group and control group.Multimode comprehensive therapy was applied in experimental group(n=30) during postoperative consecutive 7 days, which included gastrogavage, whole pharynx cavity cleaning care with aspirator, intravenous flubiprofen axetil injection 100 mg two times a day, nebulization of budesonide suspension liquid 2 mg two times a day.The treatment methods in control group(n=30) included liquid or soft diets, routine oral cavity care.Visual analogue scale (VAS) was applied to evaluate the discomfort degree including pharyngeal pain, globus and pharyngeal mucus accumulation. The incision healing degree was also recorded.RESULTS VAS scores were highest(6-7.5) in the first two days after UPPP in control group.Compared with control group, the scores of pharyngeal pain, globus and pharyngeal mucus accumulation were lower and the rate of incision complete heal was higher(53.3%) in experimental group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION The period of most severe pharyngeal discomfort after UPPP is within 48 hours after operation.Multimode comprehensive treatment can relieve pain, improve subjective globus feeling and mucus accumulation, and promote incision healing.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the influences of different anesthesia methods or adjuvant chemotherapy on hemorheological parameters in patients with cervical cancer. Methods Sixty pa-tients with cervical cancer were equally randomized into two groups.Patients in group A received three courses of chemotherapy preoperatively while those in group B did not.The patients of group A and B were divided respectively into two subgroups, combined epidural general anesthesia group (groups A1 and B1),general anesthesia group (group A2 and B2).Blood samples were taken for the hemorheological measurement at 5 min before induction of anesthesia,60 min after induction of anes-thesia and at the end of surgery. Results Red cell deformability index (EDI)was significantly lower in group A than that in group B;Erythrocyte rigidity index (ERI)and blood viscosity were higher in group A compared with those in group B (P <0.05).In groups A1 and B1,EDI,plasmic viscosity packed ERI,and ERI were all lower than those before anesthesia induction (P < 0.01 );while in groups A2 and B2 Hct decreased. Conclusion The patients of cervical cancer after chemotherapy showed some hemorheological changes characterized by a lowered EDI.Combined general and epidural anesthesia can significantly improve the above parameters.

ABSTRACT

Ameloblastic fibroma (AF) is a benign tumor, it is a true mixed tumor composed of neoplastic epithelium and mesenchymal. This tumor is rare, and it almost arises in the mandible. A 22-years old female patient referred AF in the maxillary was present. The tumor was asymptomatic, except the right facial bulge. The radiograph showed a well-circumscribed neoplasm with several low density cysts involving the right maxillary and ethmoid. The lesion was enucleated and the material was sent for histopathologic examination. Microscopically, it was composed epithelium and mesenchymal with histopathological diagnosis of ameloblastic fibroma.
