ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of the Duhuo-Jisheng decoction in treating knee osteoarthritis (KOA) with the deficiency of liver and kidney. Methods Using the random number table method, a total of 80 KOA patients were randomly divided into 2 group, 40 in each group. The treatment group were treated with Duhuo-Jisheng decoction, and the control group with glucosamine sulfate orally. The 2 groups were treated with 30 day. The blood sedimentation (ESR) of before and after treatment was detected. The level of C-reactive protein (CRP) was detected by latex enhanced immunization. The degree of knee joint pain was evaluated by VAS scale. The severity of the symptoms was evaluated by the visual scale of Osteoarthritis Index (Western Ontario Mac Master University Osteoarthritis index, WOMAC index). The changes of TCM symptoms were observed and the clinical effective rate was evaluated. Results The total effective rate of the treatment group was 95% (38/40), while the control group was 77.5% (31/40). The difference between the 2 groups was statistically significant (χ2=10.213, P=0.003). After treatment, the ESR (15.41 ± 4.23 mm/h vs. 17.6 ± 7.27 mm/h, t=-4.426), CRP (4.73 ± 1.28 mg/L vs. 6.12 ± 2.38 mg/L, t=-14.735) level in the treatemnt group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.01). The VAS scores (2.5 ± 0.62 vs. 4.9 ± 0.8, t=-15.026), WOMAC index(12.1 ± 4.7 vs. 16.7 ± 6.7, t=-11.177) and TCM symptom score (6.5 ± 0.4 vs. 7.5 ± 0.4, t=-3.482) in the treatment group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.01). Conclusions The Duhuo-Jisheng decoction is effective improve the symptom and quality of life of liver-kidney deficiency of KOA.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effect of music electroacupuncture on perifocal ferric ions and neuronal apoptosis and the brain water content in rats with acute cerebral hemorrhage and explore the mechanism of its action on acute cerebral hemorrhage. Methods One hundred and twenty-eight healthy adult male Wister rats were randomized to normal, model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups. In each group, four time points of 6 hrs, 24 hrs, 3 days and 7 days were set up, eight rats each time point. A rat model of acute cerebral hemorrhage was made using collagenase. In the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups, point Baihui was connected to the anode and point Taiyang to the cathode, 2 voltage was used as a selection parameter and electroacupuncture lasted 30 min. Intracerebral perifocal ferric ions and neuronal apoptosis and the brain water content were measured at four time points of 6 hrs, 24 hrs, 3 days and 7 days after model making. Results Intracerebral ferric ion content was higher in the model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 hrsafter model making (P<0.05), lower in the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups than in the model group at 24 hrs, 3 and 7 days after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electroacupuncture group at 3 and 7 days after model making (P<0.05). Intracerebral neuronal apoptosis was higher in the model, electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 hrs after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electro- acupuncture group at 7 days after model making (P<0.05). The brain water content was higher in the model, electro- cupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups of rats than in the normal group at 6 and 24 hrs after model making (P<0.05), lower in the electroacupuncture and music electroacupuncture groups than in the model group at 3 days after model making (P<0.05) and lower in the music electroacupuncture group than in the electroacupuncture group at 7 days after model making (P<0.05).Conclusions Music electroacupuncture has a benign regulating effect on intracerebral perifocal ferric ions, inhibits neuronal apoptosis around hematoma in the early stage and reduces cerebral edema in rats with acute cerebral hemorrhage. Its therapeutic effect is superior to that of electroacupuncture.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture with points selection based on yin-yang and qi-blood in treating insomnia by using polysomnography.Method Seventy-five insomnia patients were randomized into a treatment group of 38 cases and a control group of 37 cases. The treatment group was intervened by acupuncture with points selection based on yin-yang and qi-blood, while the control group was by oral administration of Estazolam. The polysomnography was used to assess sleep condition before and after 2 treatment courses, and the clinical efficacies were compared between the two groups.Result The sleep parameters [sleep latency, rapid eye movement (REM) latency, total sleep duration, and sleep efficiency) were significantly changed after the treatment in both groups (P0.05).Conclusion Acupuncture with points selection based on yin-yang and qi-blood is effective in treating insomnia, and it can improve the sleep structure and quality.

ABSTRACT

The signal analysis of heart rate variability (HRV) has been very significant for heart disease of aided diagnosis, monitoring and evaluation. We proposed a new method of HRV signal analysis based on the Hilbert spectrum entropy dividing frequency range. According to Hilbert spectrum characteristics of the multi-resolution and the characteristic of HRV signal frequency spectrum, the Hilbert time-frequency spectrum entropy of HRV signal in different frequency range and the full frequency Hilbert time-frequency spectrum entropy with weighting factor were calculated. This approach was analyzed after the appropriate separation for various physiological factors based on the frequency range and it is more conducive to reflect the physiological and the pathological characteristics. Applying the new approach to the actual HRV signal of the MIT-BIH standard database, we obtained the results which showed that this method could effectively differentiate from the sample group for the young, the elder and the patients with atrial fibrillation, and for the sample group for the healthy persons and CHF patients, the performance in statistical analysis was superior to those of the general time-frequency entropy method. The approach could provide an effective analysis method for clinical HRV signal.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective To explore the mechanism of the nerve growth factor (NGF) accommodated by electro-acupuncture in rats with diabetes peripheral neuropathy (DPN).MethodsThe rat DPN model was established with streptozotocin (STZ). The rats were randomly divided into the normal group, model group, western medicine group and electro-acupuncture group. The animals of the electrol-acupuncture group were treated with electrol-acupuncture on "Zusanli" and "Shenshu" after DPN model established. The nervous tissues of all animals were examined with the techniques of immunity and fluorescent quantitation PCR to detect the albumen and mRNA expression of NGF.ResultsThe albumen and mRNA expression of NGF of the animals in the model group, western medicine group and electro-acupuncture group were significantly lower than that in the normal group ( P<0.05~0.01), and the albumen and mRNA expression of NGF was up-regulation in the electro-acupuncture group after electro-acupuncture treatment and was significantly higher than that in the model group ( P<0.01).ConclusionElectro-acupuncture on "Zusanli" and "Shenshu" can up-regulate the albumen and mRNA expression of NGF, and improve reparation of the sciatic nerve in DPN animals.
