ABSTRACT

Objective To study the mechanics of improved memory alloy fixators for salvage of periprosthetic femoral fracture (PFF) after hip arthroplasty in the elderly. Methods Thirty countrymen fresh cadaveric femurs with no pathological defect, fracture, deformity or tumor were randomly divided into experimental group and control group with 15 femurs in each according to the random number table.A model of Vancouver type B1 periprosthetic femoral fracture following hip arthroplasty was induced. The fracture was treated with modified memory alloy embracing fixators in experimental group;instead general memory alloy embracing fixators in control group. All specimens were tested biomechanically. Results Under the same mechanical loading, the two groups showed respective 30% and 48% maximum differences in stress value and displacement. Results in three-point bending test did not differ significantly between the two groups (P > 0.05),but there were significant differences in axial compression and torsion test (P < 0.05 or 0.01).Conclusion The improved memory alloy embracing fixators present better resistance to compression and torsion compared to the general fixators.

ABSTRACT

Pharmacokinetic analysis has attracted more and more attentions in the research field of bioactive natural product. However, there is limited study on the pharmacokinetics of polysaccharides. This paper focused on the research progresses of pharmacokinetics of polysaccharide, summarized the applications of chromatography, isotope labeling method, spectrophotometry, fluorospectrophotometry and biological assay in the analysis of polysaccharide pharmacokinetics, elucidated the behaviors of absorption, distribution, degradation and excretion of polysaccharide in experimental animals, and revealed the effects of physicochemical characteristic, administration dose and route on the pharmacokinetic properties of polysaccharide, which could be served as a reference for the related works.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the classification of contrecoup orbital wall fractures, the mechanism of their formation and their identification in forensic practice. Method Forty-Two eases of contrecoup orbital wall fraeture were reviewed and studied. Each case has clear history of injury and both eyes have been clinically checked and CT scan performed. Results The contrecoup orbital wall fracture amounts up to 6.2% among eye socket wall fractures. Forty-two cases with home lateral injuries showed eyeball blunt contusion, 18 of them had retina concussion, 15 eyes had diplopia, no fracture on the orbital walls of that side were found by CT scanner. The 42 eyes on the opposite side of the injuries did not show eyeball contusion or retina concussion, but 10 eyes had diplopia and the orbital internal wall fractures were found in all cased by CT scanner. All 84 eyes of these eases had decreased of blurring of vision. Conclusion The main criteria for diagnosing contrecoup orbital wail, fracture is the found of head trauma with home lateral eyeball blant injury and orbital wall fracture at the opposite side proven by CT scanner and also some degree of injury in the eyeball on that side. The damage was assessed to be of minor injury.
