ABSTRACT

Aim: The aim of this study is to present the oral Squamous Cell Cancer protein-protein interaction network interpretation in comparison to esophageal adenocarcinoma


Background: Oral squamous cell cancer [OSCC] is a common disease worldwide, with poor prognosis and limited treatment. Thus, introducing molecular markers through network analysis can be helpful


Methods: STRING database [DB] was applied for network construction through Cytoscape 3.4.0. Clue GO handled the gene annotation for the retrieved clusters. Eight proteins were indicated to be differential in the network constitution


Results: The centrality and clustering analysis indicate that TP53 plays an over-significant role in network integrity among eight most central proteins including TP53, AKT1, EGFR, MYC, JUN, CDH1, CCND1, and CTNNB1. The suggested biomarker set is very similar to the related biomarker panel of esophageal adenocarcinoma


Conclusion: The ontology analysis implies that the prominent proteins are involved in regulation of smooth muscle cell proliferation, regulation of fibroblast proliferation, and response to UV-A processes. In conclusion, these proteins and their associated biological processes may be more critical compared to other reported biomarkers for OSCC. Nevertheless, validation studies are required for confirming the pivotal role of potential candidates. Similar biomarker panel of this disease and esophagus adenocarcinoma is corresponded to the origin of the two malignancies

ABSTRACT

Statement of the Problem: Mechanical properties of interim restorations are considered as important factors specially when selecting materials for long-term application or for patients with para-functional habits. Flexural strength is one of the most important components of these restorations


Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the flexural strength of five interim restorative materials


Materials and Method: Fifty identical samples sized 25×2×2-mm were made from five interim materials [TempSpan; Protemp 4, Unifast III, Trim, and Revotek LC] according to ADA specification #27. The specimens were stored in artificial saliva for 2 weeks and then thermocycled for 2500 cycles [5-55?C]. A standard three-point bending test was conducted on the specimens with a universal testing machine at a crosshead speed of 0.75mm/min. Data were analyzed by using one-way ANOVA and Tamhane's post-hoc tests to measure the flexural strength of temporary materials


Results: One of the bis-acryl resins [TempSpan] showed the highest, and the light polymerized resin [Revotek LC] showed the lowest flexural strength. The mean values of flexural strength [MPa] for the examined materials were as follow: Temp- Span=120.00, Protemp 4=113.00, Unifast III=64.20, Trim= 63.73 and Revotek LC=47.16. There were significant differences between all materials except Trim and Unifast III which did not show any statistical significant difference


Conclusion: Bis-acryl resins were statistically superior to traditional methacrylate and light-cured resins. Therefore, application of bis-acryl resins should be deliberated in patients with heavy occlusion and in cases that need long-term use of interim restorations

ABSTRACT

Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the Protein-Protein Interaction Network of Celiac Disease


Background: Celiac disease [CD] is an autoimmune disease with susceptibility of individuals to gluten of wheat, rye andbarley. Understanding the molecular mechanisms and involved pathway may lead to the development of drug targetdiscovery. The protein interaction network is one of the supportive fields to discover the pathogenesis biomarkers for celiacdisease


Material and Methods: In the present study, we collected the articles that focused on the proteomic data in celiac disease.According to the gene expression investigations of these articles, 31 candidate proteins were selected for this study. Thenetworks of related differentially expressed protein were explored using Cytoscape 3.3 and the PPI analysis methods suchas MCODE and ClueGO


Results: According to the network analysis Ubiquitin C, Heat shock protein 90kDa alpha [cytosolic and Grp94]; class A, Band 1 member, Heat shock 70kDa protein, and protein 5 [glucose-regulated protein, 78kDa], T-complex, Chaperon incontaining TCP1; subunit 7 [beta] and subunit 4 [delta] and subunit 2 [beta], have been introduced as hub-bottlnecksproteins. HSP90AA1, MKKS, EZR, HSPA14, APOB and CAD have been determined as seed proteins


Conclusion: Chaperons have a bold presentation in curtail area in network therefore these key proteins beside the other hubbottlneckproteins may be a suitable candidates biomarker panel for diagnosis, prognosis and treatment processes in celiac disease

ABSTRACT

Statement of the Problem: Marginal fitness is the most important criteria for evaluation of the clinical acceptability of a cast restoration. Marginal gap which is due to cement solubility and plaque retention is potentially detrimental to both tooth and periodontal tissues


Purpose: This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the marginal and internal fit of cobaltchromium [Co-Cr] copings fabricated by two different CAD/CAM systems: [CAD/milling and CAD/ Ceramill Sintron]


Materials and Method: We prepared one machined standard stainless steel master model with following dimensions: 7 mm height, 5mm diameter, 90[degree] shoulder marginal finish line with 1 mm width, 10[degree] convergence angle and anti-rotational surface on the buccal aspect of the die. There were 10 copings produced from hard presintered Co-Cr blocks according to CAD/ Milling technique and ten copings from soft non- presintered Co-Cr blocks according to CAD/ Ceramill Sintron technique. Marginal and internal accuracies of copings were documented by the replica technique. Replicas were examined at ten reference points under a digital microscope [230X]. The Student's ttest was used for statistical analysis. p< 0.001 was considered significant


Results: Statistically significant differences existed between the groups [p< 0.001]. The CAD/milling group [hard copings] had a mean marginal discrepancy [MD] of 104 micro m, axial discrepancy [AD] of 23 micro m and occlusal discrepancy of 130 micro m. For CAD/Ceramill Sintron group, these values were 195 micro m [MD], 46 micro m [AD], and 232 micro m [OD]. Internal total discrepancy [ITD] for the CAD/milling group was 77 micro m, whereas for the CAD/Ceramill Sintron group was 143 micro m


Conclusion: Hard presintered Co-Cr copings had significantly higher marginal and internal accuracies compared to the soft non-presintered copings

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of prednisolone on the sensitivity of bone scanning to detect the simulated closed fracture in the rat tibia. A total number of forty eight adult, male NMRI rats randomly assigned into two parts, one part for 4 and other for 8 weeks experiments. Each part has been divided into four groups, one group not receiving prednisolone [control group] and the other groups receiving 5, 10 and 20 mg/kg prednisolone respectively. After four and eight weeks of experiments a simulated closed fracture was created in the tibia approximately 1 cm near knee joint. .The scintigraphy imaging has been performed on second and fifth day after tibial bone fracture and the ratio of the activity of tibia bone fracture to the contra lateral healthy side was calculated [R factor]. All scintigraphy images showed the rat tibia bone fracture. Statistically significant difference in the R factors have been observed, when scintigraphy images were performed in fifth day after injury. Bone radionuclide scanning by [99m]Tc-MDP is very sensitive for detection of occult fracture. In order to enhance bone scan sensitivity, it may be reasonable to postpone [99m]Tc-MDP scintigraphy imaging at least 2 to 3 days after suspected trauma in patients receiving glucocorticoid medication

ABSTRACT

Toxic fumes generated during the soldering process contain various contaminants released at sufficient rates to cause both short- and long-term health problems. Studies have shown that these fumes change the quality and quantity of semen fluid in exposed workers. The aim of the present study was to determine the potentially toxic effects of solder fumes on spermatogenesis in seminiferous tubules of rats as an experimental model, with conditioned media in an exposed chamber. A total number of 48 male Sprague Dawley adult rats were randomly divided into experimental [n=30] and control [n=18] groups. Based on exposure time, each group was further subdivided into two, four and six subgroups. Rats in the experimental groups were exposed to solder fumes in an exposure chamber for one hour/ day. The concentrations of fumes [formaldehyde, stanurn [Sn] and lead [Pb]] were measured by a standard method via atomic absorption and spectrophotometry. According to a timetable, under deep anesthesia, the rats of both experimental and control subgroups were killed. After fixation of testes, specimens were weighed and routinely processed. Paraffin sections were stained by hematoxylin and eosin. Spermiogenesis index was calculated and data analyzed by Mann Whitney NPAR test. Analysis of air samples in the exposure chamber showed the following fume concentrations: 0.193 mg/m[3] for formaldehyde, 0.35 mg/m[3] for Sn and 3 mg/m[3] for Pb. Although there was no significant difference in testes weight between control and experimental subgroups, there was only a significant difference in spermiogenesis index between the six week experimental and control subgroups [p<0.02]. The results of this study showed that solder fumes can change the spermiogenesis index in experimental groups in a time dependent manner
