ABSTRACT

With the growth of aging population in Korea, a better care of chronic and other degenerative illnesses is urgently needed. Evidences suggest that this can be achieved through incorporating a wide range of care options, expanding beyond medical interventions. The aim of this study is to analyze the distribution of publically funded research to understand if the Korean research and development funding system matches various approaches and purposes to successfully tackle the chronic care needs of an aging society. We complied the list of funded projects to be analyzed by searching the National Technical Information Service database with key words such as aging society/senescence, chronic diseases, disability, and health promotion. Most projects were based on the biomedical approach with the purpose of establishing the etiology and clinical (treatment) interventions. Health promotion projects showed a distinctive distribution with more percentage of projects based on psycho-behavioral approaches while research on chronic diseases predominantly biomedical. It would be necessary to diversify publically-funded research projects to develop effective and efficient care technologies for the future.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effects of yiqi huoxue recipe and Coxsackie B virus type 3 (CVB3) on the expression of ribosomal protein S20 in rat cardiac myocytes, to explore the pathogenesis of myocarditis induced by CVB3 and the mechanism of yiqi huoxue recipe on gene level, and to further investigate whether yiqi huoxue recipe is an effective prescription for CVB3 myocarditis.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>A modified suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) was used to isolate differentially expressed genes between the CVB3 infection group and the treatment group with yiqi huoxue recipe. The results were further verified by fluorescence RT-PCR.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The results of SSH showed that the gene expression of ribosomal protein S20 in the treatment group was higher than that in the CVB3 infection group (P<0.05), which agreed with the results of fluorescent RT-PCR.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Down-regulation of ribosomal protein S20 mRNA expression might be one of the mechanisms in CVB3 myocarditis, and yiqi huoxue recipe could achieve the treatment of viral myocarditis by regulating the expression of ribosomal protein S20.</p>

0);while the gene frequency of HLA-DQA1 * 0401 allele in children FC was 0.9 %,which was lower than that of the control group(8.5 %,P = 0.0350).Conclusion HLA-DQA1 0101 allele maybe a susceptible gene and HLA-DQA1 * 0401 allele maybe a protective gene of FC in children FC in Han nationality in Baotou.There was no correlation between HLA-DQB1 and FC.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the intravenous (Ⅳ) administration with an oral iron agent administration in their efficacy and side effects in hemodialysis patients with renal anemia. Method:50 renal anemic patients were randomly grouped as the treatment group (TG) and controlled group (25 cases for each). 100 mg iron dextran injection was intravenously dropped twice weekly for the TG patients in the dialysis course, totally 10 times. 150 mg iron polysaccharide complex capsules was orally used qd in the controlled group. All the patients were treated in combination with 8000u of erythropoietin (EPO) weekly and observed for 8 weeks. The changes in Hb, serum ferritin level and agent side effect were monitored.
