ABSTRACT

Terpine-4-ol is abundant in nature. As a cyclic monoterpenoid compound, terpine-4-ol is distributed in a variety of natural plants. It is the main component and the key active substance in many traditional Chinese essential oils, such as Melaleuca alba essential oil and coral ginger essential oil. Terpine-4-ol has anti-microbial, anti-tumor, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, and other effects. It can treat cancer, as well as oral and cardiovascular diseases with great safety. In terms of antibacterial activity, terpine-4-ol can destroy bacterial cell walls, improve membrane permeability, and regulate bacterial migration, reproduction, and other related genes to inhibit bacterial activity. In terms of antifungal activity, terpine-4-ol can bind with ergosterol in fungal cell walls to cause fungal death. In terms of insecticidal activity, terpine-4-ol can inhibit Na+ and K+-ATPase activity and cause the death of the insect. In terms of anticancer activity, terpine-4-ol can regulate the expression of apoptosis-related proteins in cancer cells, so as to control the apoptosis of cancer cells. In this paper, the pharmacological activity and action mechanism of terpine-4-ol were reviewed to provide a reference for further research and utilization of terpine-4-ol.

ABSTRACT

Down′s syndrome(DS), also known as Trisomy 21 syndrome, is associated with a variety of blood system diseases, including transient blood cell count abnormalities in newborns, transient myeloproliferative diseases, and acute and chronic leukemia. In this article, the pathogenesis of blood system abnormalities in children with DS was reviewed, and research progress in children with DS and acute lymphoblastic leukemia was summarized from the aspects of clinical and biological characteristics, treatment and prognosis.

ABSTRACT

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) with intra-chromosomal amplification of chromosome 21(iAMP21) accounts for approximately 2% of children′s B-cell precursor ALL(BCP-ALL). iAMP21 is a complex genetic abnormality that is highly heterogeneous among patients. The mechanism of iAMP21 may be related to breakage-fusion-bridge (BFB) cycle, rob(15; 21)c and r(21)c.Patients with iAMP21-ALL are older and asso-ciated with lower white blood cell and platelet counts and poor prognosis and increasing the intensity of chemotherapy can improve the prognosis of patients. The advances of genetic abnormalities, formation mechanisms, clinical features, prognosis and treatment of iAMP21-ALL was reviewed in this article.

ABSTRACT

Infant acute lymphoblastic leukemia B (B-ALL) accounts for 10% of childhood ALL. Eighty percent of infant B-ALL was caused byMLL gene rearrangement (MLL-r). The overall survival rate of ALL was less than 35% in infants with MLL-r. Among infant ALL with MLL-r, infants with positivefusion geneMLL-AF4 (MA4) formed by chromosome t (4;11) had even poor prognosis. Studies in monozygotic twins and archived blood spot at birth had veriifed that fusion gene MA4 originated from antenatal. Whole genome sequencing found that t (4;11) alone might be sufifcient to spawn leukemia. This paper is going to summarize the advances in biological characteristics such as clinical features, cellular origin, genomics and disease models of normalMLL gene and infant B-ALL withMA4.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate healthcare-associated infection(HAI)in patients in a cancer hospital, provide reference for controlling HAI in cancer patients, and guide rational use of antimicrobial agents. Methods Clinical data of patients in a cancer hospital between August 2006 and July 2012 were analyzed retrospectively. Results The incidence of HAI case was 1 .53% (2 060/134 389),and annual incidence showed a downward trend. The main in-fection site was lower respiratory tract (46.46%,n=957),followed by bloodstream (15.63%,n=322),abdominal and pelvic (14.03%,n=289).The main pathogens were Pseudomonas aeruginosa (16.16%,n=350),Staphylo-coccus aureus (9.97%,n=216),Klebsiella pneumoniae (9.79%,n=212),Escherichia coli (9.65%,n=209), and Candida albicans (6.51 %,n=141 ).Gram-negative bacilli, including Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli ,were sensitive to carbapenems and β-lactamase inhibitors. Conclusion Lower respiratory tract is the major HAI site in patients with cancer, and gram-negative bacteria are the main pathogens.Carbapenems andβ-lactamase inhibitors are recommended for the empirical treatment of HAI in cancer patients.
