ABSTRACT

The activities of aspartate aminotransferase [AST], alanine aminotransferase [ALT] and alkaline phosphatase [ALKpase] were determined in the sera of carp fish [Cyprinus carpio]. The measurements primarily provide control values for subsequent toxicological examinations. AST activity was 36.03 +/- 2 IU/L in males and 32.97 +/- 1.62 IU/L in females. ALT activity was 7.06 +/- 0.37 IU/L in males and 6.82 +/- 0.24 IU/L in females. Serum alkaline phosphatase activity was 1.26 +/- 0.13 KAU/100 ml in males and 1.21 +/- 0.11 KAU/100 ml in females. Statistically, there is no sex difference between males and females in all estimated enzyme activities

ABSTRACT

Serum iron, total iron-binding capacity [TIBC], unsaturated iron- binding capacity [UIBC or LIBC], and transferrin saturation% were measured in male rabbits administered Praziquantel drug [biltricide] by a dose of 4 mg/100 g life body weight. The data obtained of serum iron were significantly increased 2 and 24 hours following oral administration of the drug, whereas at 48 hours serum iron level was nonsignificantly decreased. TIBC showed similar results as serum iron but the increase was nonsignificant at 2 and 24 hours after drug administration, while at 48 hours after drug receiving TIBC showed a significant decrease. The later iron-binding capacity [LIBC] or [HIPC] revealed a nonsignificant drop, followed by a nonsignificant increase at 2 at 24 hours after drug administration, respectively. But UIBC level was decreased significantly 48 hours after drug receiving. The transferrin saturation% was increased at all periods which were 32.46%, 24.10% and 24.25% at 2, 24 and 48 hours, respectively

ABSTRACT

Lactic dehydrogenase [LDH], aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, acid and alkaline phosphatase] and some organic constituents [fructose, total proteins, total lipids and ascorbic acid] were assessed in 200 seminal plasma samples [100 from native breed bulls and 100 from buffalo bulls]. The results showed that there are insignificant differences in the enzymatic activities of lactic dehydrogenase [LDH], aspartate-aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase in the seminal plasma of the two species. However, the acid and alkaline phosphatase activities of buffalo bulls seminal plasma were significantly higher [P <0.05] compared to that of the native bulls. A significant increase [P <0.05] in the total proteins and fructose content of the native bulls seminal plasma than of the buffalo bulls. However, no significant differences was traced in total lipids or ascorbic acid content in the seminal plasma of the two species

ABSTRACT

The efficacy and safety of oxfendazole were evaluated in sheep naturally infested with parasitic gastroenteritis. Oxfendazole was found to be an effective nematocidal drug without side effects under field conditions. Biochemical parameters as a criteria for liver, kidney and heart functions, did not show intoxication and /or cell disintegration in these organs. It is noteworthy to mention that, sanitary measures must be adopted beside the curative treatment in order to eliminate the parasite
