ABSTRACT
The optimum conditions for preparation of 2-amino-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiazole [1] are determined. The solvent, reaction temperature, molar ratio of reactants, time of reaction and catalyst are found to be determining factors for the synthesis of pure product in the highest yield. A kinetic reaction rate study is performed, from which, it is deducted that the preparation of [I] follows a second order reaction rate. The specific reaction rates at different reaction temperatures, together with the activation energ of the reaction are evaluated
