ABSTRACT

A case of dermatitis exfoliativa secondary to seborrheic dermatitis presumably also secondary to bilateral fibroid pulmonary tuberculosis is presented. The illness was of over 4 months duration and had received various kinds of treatments which gave negative results when streptomycin was started at the height of the symptoms. After 66 days of streptomycin treatment, in combination with other adjuvant medications, marked improvement was observed and progressed to complete recovery shortly1. Streptomycin (calcium chloride complex) had been found effective in a case of dermatitis exfoliativa secondary to dermatitis seborrheica with tuberculous etiology2. Tuberculous infection or tuberculous toxemia can be considered an etiologic factor in dermatitis exfoliativa, secondary to dermatitis seborrheica in the presence of a bilateral fibroid pulmonary tuberculosis. ABSTRACT

1. A total of 80 lobar pneumonia cases among Philippine Army, personnel were treated with sulfapyridine. All patients recovered2. Of these cases 94.1 per cent belonged to types I and II3. In 75 per cent of cases, the crisis came within 4 days after onset of treatment4. Type I pneumococci respond earlier to sulfapyridine treatment than the rest of the types in our series5. With the exception of nausea and vomiting, which occured in only 5 cases, albuminuria in 2 cases, dermatitis in 1 case, no injurious or untoward effects were noted.(Summary)

ABSTRACT

A case of almost fatal anaphylactic-like shock reaction, due to sodium penicillin G, that happened to a member of the V. Luna General Hospital personnel (AFP) is reported. Direct intracutaneous skin testing eleven weeks after the incident revealed markedly positive reaction. This is the first case reported in this hospital, in spite of the countless injections of penicillin given both to in-and out-patientsSimilar cases reported abroad are reviewed. There are reasons for believing that similar cases are increasing in number and frequency. In view of similar occurrences reported abroad, and the present one, suggestions are offered to minimize, if not entirely prevent, such unpleasant, almost fatal reactions. (Summary)

ABSTRACT

Two cases of secondary dermatitis exfoliativa, associated with lipomelano reticulosis with hyperplasia of lymph nodes and generalized negroid-like pigmentation (Case II), terminating in uneventful recovery, are presentedEtiology and pathogenesis are consideredManagement is described and discussedThe remarkable beneficial results of parenteral calcium gluconate-ascorbic therapy in both cases, especially in the second one with the negroid pigmentation, is observed and commented upon. Differential diagnosis of this pigmentation is discussed. (Summary)
