ABSTRACT

Diffuse alopecia areata is the least common clinical type of alopecia, and this diffuse form lacks the characteristic hairless patches of alopecia and it begins as diffuse hair loss. Diffuse alopecia areata has been poorly characterized. In 2002, there was a suggestion to define this form of alopecia areata as acute, diffuse and total alopecia of the female scalp (ADTAFS). ADTAFS is characterized by a marked female predominance, tissue eosinophilia and a uniquely short clinical course. We report here on one case of ADTAFS.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Korea Academy of Family Medicine recommands HBsAb and HBsAb test in youth health promotion program. Adequate management are necessary for prevention of vertical transmission at perinatal period, especially girls' high school students as a future's conceivable woman. Health examination program for the first grade students of high school which was established by the Educational Ministry has been acted since 1998. So, through the students health examination we'd like to find an adequate method of prevention and management in hepatitis B. METHODS: Our study examines HBs Ag/Ab about girls' high school students at two high schools in a city. According to the results of hepatitis B, active intervention in carrier group, passive intervention in candidate were done. And then a year later, hepatitis B management was investigated through the questionnaire. RESULTS: In active intervention group, regular check up of hepatitis B is 21.4%, hepatitis B blood test in family is 39.3% and in passive intervention group, hepatitis B vaccination rate after health examiantion is 9.1%. CONCLUSION: More active intervention such as mass vaccination are required in health examination for the purpose of hepatitis B management at youth.

ABSTRACT

A 51-year-old Korean woman presented with a non-tender, well-demarcated, reddish, edematous patch on the right anterior chest where a previous mastectomy and radiation therapy had been performed. She had been diagnosed as having infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the right breast about 1 year ago. Histopathological findings of the skin lesions were consistent with inflammatory metastatic carcinoma of the breast. Inflammatory carcinoma or carcinoma erysipeloides is a well-established entity most frequently associated with carcinoma of the breast. It is characterized by dermal lymphatic invasion by malignancy and clinically should be distinguished from erysipelas or cellulitis. We describe a case of inflammatory metastatic carcinoma derived from an infiltrating ductal carcinoma of the breast which can be clinically confused with radiation dermatitis.

ABSTRACT

Accessory tragi are rare congenital malformations of the external ear. They are present from birth and appear as solitary or multiple papules located between the pretragal and sternoclavicular regions. Accessory tragi may be multiple but are almost always unilateral and rarely bilateral. We report two cases of bilateral accessory tragus and a typical case of unilat, eral accessory tragus manifesting as skin-colored papules on the preauricular area.

ABSTRACT

The ratio of acetoacetate to 8-hydroxybutyrate (ketone body ratio) in the blood may reflects the mitochondrial free NAD+/NADH ratio in the liver. Also arterial ketone body ratio will reflects the energy status of the hepatocytes, because mitochondrial free NAD+/NADH ratio is closely related to oxidative phosphorylation. Arterial ketone body ratio and osmolal gap, the difference between measured osmolality and calculated osmolality, were measured 30 min after the induction of hemorrhagic shock with mean arterial blood pressure at 40 mmHg in ten rabbits. Arterial ketone body ratios decreased significantly (p<0.05) from 0.74+/-0.17 to 0.38+/-0.09 and osmolal gap increased significantly (p<0.05) from 17.7+/-5.9 mOsm/Kg to 32.8+/-12.3 mOsm/Kg at 30 min after the induction of hemorrhagic shock. These results suggest that in hemorrhagic shock, decreased arterial ketone body ratio which reflects the inhibition of the TCA cycle is associated with increase of osmolal gap.

ABSTRACT

A case of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis in a 46-year-old woman is presented. The patient showed repeatedly developed erythematous, indurated plaque studded with srnall yellowish pustules on flush area of the left cheek with blood eosinophilia and biopsy revealed histopathological findings of eosinophilic pustular folliculitis. The patient responded well to systemic administration of corticosteroid and dapsone.

ABSTRACT

Povidone-iodine (PVP-I) is a widely used antiseptic for the skin and mucous membrane. It is known that povidone-iodine rarely induce contact sensitization. Recently, we have experienced 2 cases of povidone-iodine contact dermatitis. Standard patch test with PUP-I, PVP and, iodine were performed.
