ABSTRACT

Atypical polypoid adenomyoma of the uterus is a rare tumor and usually occurs in young women. The most common symptom is abnomal uterine bleeding and the definite diagnosis of the lesions depends on microscopic features. The treatment of this tumor depends on the age of the patient, her desire to retain reproductive function, and the severity of her symptoms. If the patient desires to preserve her reproductive capacity, repeated dilatations and curettages must be done because of the possibility of coexisting endometrial carcinoma. If not, hysterectomy is acceptable. We experienced a rare case of atypical polypoid adenomyoma of the uterus in a postmenopausal woman and report it with brief review of literature.

ABSTRACT

Most of treatments have been performed laparotomy, but the rapid advances in laparoscopic operative and laboratory techniques and instrument allowed to apply laparoscopic surgery to this disease. We have reviewed 342 cases of ectopic pregnancy from march 1994 to march 2001.The cornual pregnancies were 21 case (6.1%), and the laparoscopic management in 11 cases. The mean gestational age at the time of laparoscopic surgery was 9.1 1.2 (n=11) weeks, and laparotomy was 9.4 1.3 (n=10) weeks. There were no significant difference. The mean operation time of laparoscopic surgery was 72.8 25.5minutes, and laparotomy was 68.3 24.3minutes. The mean hospital days of laparoscopic surgery were 4.9 2.4days, and laparotomy were 6.6 2.3days. In conclusion, laparoscopic surgery can be used as effective and safe as laparotomy for cornual pregnancy.

ABSTRACT

Actinomycosis is an oppoturnistic infection of actinomyces, which are relatively avirulent endogenous oral commensals. After trauma or infection, they breach the normally protective mucosal barriers to invade adjacent soft tissue structures. Lesions routinely contain other bacteria, the normal resident flora at the site of primary infection, which act synergistically with actinomyces species to provoke this unique infection, which range from an acute suppurative process to a chronic fibrotic process. According to epidemic studies about pelvic actinomycosis, it should be significantly related to IUD(intrauterine device). It is accounted that IUD cause chronic intrauterine infection, tissue injury and act as nucleus for parasitic infestation. Here we present a case of pelvic actinomycosis related to IUD with brief review of the concerned literature.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To assess the characteristic CT findings of the angiomatous polyp. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fivecases of pathologically-proven angiomatous polyp were retrospectively evaluated. All underwent CT scanning, butin only four cases were postcontrast CT scans obtained. In analysing CT findings we focused on adjacent bonychange, and the extent and enhancement pattern of the mass. RESULTS: All but one case involved the maxillarysinus, showing thickening of the posterolateral wall and erosion or destruction of the medial wall. As forinvolvement of the anterior wall of this sinus, bony destruction was seen in one case, and thickening in three. Infour cases the tumor involved the maxillary sinus and nasal cavity, and two cases showed nasopharyngeal extension. No case involved the pterygopalatine fossa, however. On contrast enhanced CT scans(n=4), all cases showedenhancement as strong as blood vessels, and a multiple focal punctate or tubular pattern. CONCLUSION: Angiomatouspolyp tends to show bone thickening rather than bone destruction, not to involve the pterygopalatine fossa, and toreveal a strong punctate or tubular enhancement pattern. These findings may be helpful in the differentialdiagnosis of angiomatous polyp from other tumors such as maxillary cancer, angiofibroma and nasal polyp
