Waist circumference, weight, Body mass index, blood pressure, serum glucose concentration, triglyceride and HDL-cholestrol were measured before and after administration of therapy. The effects of therapy were assessed by statistically comparing the results before and after the drug administration. Comparison of waist circumference, blood pressure, FSG, triglycerides of the patients before drug administration [baseline data], with those of the controls showed a significant elevation, while HDL-cholesterol showed a significant reduction. A significant reduction of waist circumference, BP, FSG and a significant elevation of HDL-cholesterol were also noted after therapy with both losartan and enalapril. Both losartan and enalapril produced a significant reduction of markers of metabolic syndrome and may be regarded as effective drugs for treatment of hypertension in patients with markers of metabolic syndrome

ABSTRACT

Twenty trihexyphenidyl [THP] abusers were studied. They had a mean age of 30.5 years. Fifteen of them were employed and 6 of them were married. In addition to THP some of them were alcohol and polydrug abusers with poor educational and social skills, who abused THP mainly for its euphorogenic properties. The 3 major diagnostic categories were antisocial personality disorder, depression and polydrug abuse. The present study concluded that the abuse of THP is of particular interest and concern because of the apparently low level of awareness among physicians regarding its abuse potential, beside; its abuse does not seem to be sufficiently recognized by psychiatrists
