ABSTRACT

Introduction :In the past 30 years, there had been more than 916 Information Technology (IT)providers registered with National Association of Software and Service companies. Career in the IT field warrants struggles with deadlines, working at odd and long hours and poor inter-personal relationships all affecting the mental wellbeing of workers. To assess the levels of depression and its associatedObjective: factors among IT Professionals. A cross sectional study, among 170 IT professionals in Chennai.Method: Interview was conducted collecting socio demographic details and Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ - 9) was used to assess the depression levels. Descriptive statistics were computed for background variables. Association between various factors and levels of depression were analyzed using chi square test. Multiple logistic regression was performed to identify independent risk factors. Among the participants,Results: majority 83 (48.8%) were between 21 – 30 years and 95 (55.9%) had work experience > 5 years. Most of them worked on day shifts 105(61.8%). A total of 60 (35.3%) participants had mild and 46 (27%) participants had moderate depression level. These risk factors when compared with depression, it was found that age, gender and working years were found to be significant. (p<0.05). In presentConclusion: study, 2/3 of the participants had mild to moderate depression levels. It is necessary to increase the activerd depression management counseling services.

ABSTRACT

Introduction : Child maltreatment is the abuse and neglect that occurs to children under 18 years of age. It includes all types of physical and/or emotional ill-treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, negligence and commercial or other exploitation. To assess the Knowledge and perception of Child maltreatmentObjective : among parents of Under 18 children. This was a Cross-Sectional Study done among parents ofMethod : paediatric patients (aged under 18 years) who attended a private tertiary level hospital. A total of 324 selected parents were interviewed during the study period. The study was conducted in the form of a questionnaire which consisted of 3 parts. In the study 96.2% of the parents who participated wereResults : aware of the term “child abuse” but among them, 6.1% were unaware of the fact that there are different types of abuse. More than 2/3 (76.85%) of the parents felt that alcohol influences the behavior of predators ofrd child abuse. Overall, age, education level, and marital status were the statistically significant factors in the current study. The parents in our society today are aware of what child abuse is and its influenceConclusion: on children, society, and the community in general but the knowledge related to legislations have to improve.

ABSTRACT

Background: Quality of work life and work life balance needs to be assessed as there is decline in labor force of married working women. The current study attempted to assess working conditions and work life balance of married working women in tertiary care hospital.Methods: A cross sectional section was conducted in tertiary health care hospital for six months period. A total of 254 married working women of various professions such as doctors, nurses, human resource, hospital administrators, secretaries, attenders and housekeeping were selected using universal sampling method. The data collection was done using the instrument “work environment survey 2011 (we are finding patterns in employee attitudes)” for assessing working condition and “work life conflict scale” to assess the work life balance of these women. Results were expressed in frequency, mean and chi square with p<0.5 was significant.Results: About half of the study population women 152 (59.84%) are involved in health care sector and 53.94% of them earn per capita income of above 20,000. The mean of total working conditions score in the study population is 13.82 with a standard deviation of 4.64. Increase workload and nature of spouse are associated with poor working condition.Conclusions: Majority of married women working in tertiary care hospital were moderately satisfied with the working conditions. Quality of work life can be promoted by recognition of the work done, providing autonomy of work, sufficient staffing with better working environment.

ABSTRACT

Background: Breast cancer is the most commonly occurring cancer in women and the second most common cancer overall. There were over 2 million new cases in 2018 diagnosed worldwide. The Indian Council of Medical Research found that an estimated 1.5 lakh new cases of breast cancer were reported in 2016, making it the most common cancer among Indians.Methods: A cross sectional study was conducted with the total sample size of 256 female participants which includes first year to interns. Pre-designed semi structured questionnaire was given to the students. The knowledge was assessed in terms of risk factors, symptoms, methods of diagnosis and self-breast examination. The statistical analysis used was MS Excel 2019.Results: Out of 256 female undergraduate Allied health science students, 142 (55.47%) had good knowledge while 114 (44.53%) had poor awareness and knowledge about breast cancer and its screening methods.Conclusions: As many of the students have low knowledge on breast cancer and its screening techniques. Hence some activities on breast cancer should be planned to improve the awareness among Allied health science students.

ABSTRACT

Background: India was the first country to have launched a National Program for Family Planning in 1952, but still there is no control on population growth. The objective was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of contraceptives among married women in semi urban area of Tamil Nadu.Methods: A community based cross sectional study was conducted in a semi urban area of Tamil Nadu. Married women of reproductive age (15-49) were included. Purposive sampling technique was used to select the subjects and self-administered questionnaire was used as study tool.Results: In this study about 91.80% were aware of at least one of the contraceptive methods but only 64.75% women used. The most common reason for using contraception was small family norms (75.89%) and for not using contraception was worried about side effects. The method commonly preferred was sterilisation (63.93%). The process of decision making was done mutually by both husband and wife (76.79%). There is an association existing between the education and awareness.Conclusions: On overall analysis it was found that only 49% are aware of contraception.
