ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the relationship between NP involvement and clinical factors and the potential predictors for NPSLE in children. Methods Sixty-two Chinese children with SLE diagnosed between 1990 and 2006 were retrospectively reviewed. Clinical characteristics and potential predictors for NPSLE were analyzed in patients with NP vs those without NP, early-onset NP vs late-onset NP, SLE-onset vs NP-onset in late-onset NP group. Results Ratio of lupus nephritis(LN) at SLE onset was less common in patients with NP disorders than those without NP; the mean age for the early-onset group was significantly younger and the SLEDAI score was higher than those of late-onset group. There was no difference in all the clinical and serological factors for SLE-onset vs NP-onset in the late-onset NPSLE group. Conclusion NP development is negatively associated with renal involvement at SLE diagnosis. Early-onset NPSLE usually happens in young patients with high disease activity scores. There are no clinical factors that can predict the development of NPSLE.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study a population of rheumatoid arthritis patients and determine the extent of periodontal disease in these patients, in order to investigate the relationship between periodontal disease and rheumatoid arthritis.

METHODSThe experimental group was composed of 70 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and the control group consisted of 70 age- and gender-matched individuals without rheumatoid arthritis. The relationship between periodontal status in rheumatoid arthritis and control groups as well as the relationship between periodontal status and rheumatological findings in patients were analyzed.

RESULTSThe percentage of periodontal disease was statistically significant between experimental and control group (P < 0.01). The difference of average number of missing teeth and bleeding on probing in the experimental group and control group were not statistically significant (P >0.05). There were more number of periodontal disease index 5 or 6 in experimental group than in control group ( P < 0.05). Rheumatoid arthritis patients with moderate to severe bone loss had deeper degree of morning stiffness, erythrocyte sedimentation rate levels and serum C-reactive protein levels than patients with no or mild bone loss.

CONCLUSIONIndividuals with rheumatoid arthritis are more likely to experience periodontal disease compares to healthy subjects. They are also very likely to suffer from moderate to severe periodontitis.

ABSTRACT

Objective Aliginic sodium diester(ASD) liposome was prepared and its aggregation stability was evaluated. Methods ASD liposome was made by reverse phase evaporating method from egg yolk lecithin, compared with blank liposome, the size distributions and mean particle diameters of ASD liposome and blank liposome were measured respectively before and after 40 hours heating under 37℃.Results Under the condition of n(PC)∶n(CHOL) = 1∶1,the mean size diameter of ASD liposome was 4.24?m.The mean size diameter of ASD liposome changed only 0.26?m after cultivation, however, the value of blank liposome was 1.35?m.Conclusion ASD loaded in the liposome enhanced the physical stability of the liposome.
