ABSTRACT

Objective:To analysis the correlation of eating speed with obesity. Methods:A total of 644 people aged 40-65 from Caihe Community in Hangzhou were enrolled to collect clinical and demographic data, undergo extensive physical examination and laboratory tests. Participants were divided into two groups according to their eating speed (non-fast and fast). Obesity-related parameters were compared between two groups. Multivariable logistic regression was conducted to explore the relationship between eating speed and obesity after adjusting confounders. Results:Body mass index, waist circumference, and visceral fat area were greater in the fast eating group than non-fast eating group(all P<0.01). After adjusting for age, gender, smoking, alcohol drinking, physical activity level per week, and principal food intake, logistic regression analysis showed that eating fast was correlated with abdominal obesity( OR=1.66, 95% CI 1.11-2.48, P=0.014) and visceral obesity( OR=1.65, 95% CI 1.14-2.39, P=0.007). After stratified by gender, in the group of men, eating fast was correlated with abdominal obesity( OR=2.04, 95% CI 1.07-4.04, P=0.032) and visceral obesity( OR=1.85, 95% CI 1.04-3.31, P=0.037); In the group of women, eating fast was correlated with overweight and obesity( OR=1.59, 95% CI 1.04-2.42, P=0.031). Conclusion:Eating fast is positively associated with obesity. Interventions for reducing eating speed may be effective for weight control.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To evaluate the clinical effects of invisible bracketless appliance on the upper molar distalization.Methods:15 patients with class Ⅱ malocclusion(at the average age of 25.3 years) were treated by invisible bracketless appliance, the pre and post three-dimensional digital models were superimposed and measured, the effects of molar distalization were analysed. Results:After treatment, the maxillary first molars were distalized by 2.58 mm on both sides. The left and fight second molars were distalized by 2.57 mm and 2.68 mm respectively.Bilateral central incisors were moved mesially by 0.34 mm.There was no significant difference in the horizontal movement of central incisor. But the left and fight first molars were moved buccally by 0.96 mm and 0.97 mm respectively, the left and fight second molars were moved buccally by 1.01 mm and 1.11 mm separately.Bilateral first molars were intruded by 0.26 mm,the left and right second molars were intruded by 0.37 mm and 0.36 mm,respectively. But the central incisors had no significant vertical movement. There was no significant difference in the buccally or palatally rotation of bilateral first and second molars. Conclusion:Invisible bracketless appliance is efficient for distalization of upper molar, but it may result in mild molar intrusion and anterior anchorage loss.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the stress distribution and the initial displacement of maxillary anterior teeth during en-masse retraction with clear aligner. Methods:The initial 3D finite element model of the maxillary teeth,PDL and alveolar bone was constructed by CBCT image reconstruction technique.Laser scanned image of crowns was merged with initial 3D model. The stress distribution and the initial displacement were analyzed by ANSYS Workbench when aligner was loaded. Results:The high simulation maxillary complex was constructed.Distal and lingual crown tipping of central incisors and lateral incisors were observed. The tendency of extrusion of the central and lateral incisors was consistant. The same tendency of stress distribution in PDL and initial displacement was appeared on incisors. The distal tipping movement was occurred on canine. Conclusion:Tipping movement along with extrusion can be produced by maxillary anterior teeth during en-rnasse retraction in extraction treatment with clear aligner.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the expression and significance of multidrug resistance gene (MDR1) in children with refractory epilepsy (RE). Methods Children with RE (n = 30), non-RE (n = 30) and healthy children (n=30) were collected. The expression of MDR1-mRNA in peripheral blood was analyzed by fluorescence quantitative PCR. The relationship of MDRI-mRNA with epileptic frequency and numbers of antiepileptic drugs (AEDs) were observed. Results The expression of MDR1 in RE group obviously increased when compared with that of non-RE group and healthy group (P < 0.01, P < 0.01) ; MDR1 expression was more among patients with high frequent epilepsy than patients with low frequent epilepsy (P < 0.01) ; more in patients administered with four kinds of AEDs than those with two or three kinds of AEDs (P < 0.01). Concinsions MDR1 overexpression in blood of children with RE may be linked to drug-resistant mechanism of RE. It might be used as a clinical indicator of RE.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To discover specific neural stem cell (NSC) proliferation-promoting factor, which will contribute to study on development of nervous system and treatment of nervous system diseases. METHODS: The extracts of forebrain, midbrain, afterbrain and cerebellum of neonatal mice were prepared, and the NSCs of newborn mice were cultured in vitro. Neurospheres were observed, immunocytochemical staining of characteristic protein, nestin, and MTT assay were performed to identify NSCs and their proliferative properties. RESULTS: A great deal of neurospheres were formed in the presence of the extracts of afterbrain and cerebellum, which were positive for characteristic protein (Nestin) of NSC showed by immunocytochemical staining. CONCLUSION: The afterbrain and cerebellum extracts can increase the total number of NSCs isolated from newborn mice in vitro in a dose-dependent manner.
