ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the clinical effects and security of nanometer ceramics artificial bone transplantation to treat the bone defect.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>From March 2005 to November 2007, 32 patients (artificial bone group) with extremity bone defects applied nanometer ceramics artificial bone transplantations, included 19 males and 13 females, aged from 17 to 63 years old (averaged 31.4 years). The other 36 patients (internal fixation group) with extremity bone defects were treated by the internal fixation in the same period, included 21 males and 15 females, aged from 16 to 65 years old (averaged 32.6 years). Ca, P, B-ALP, IgG, IgA, IgM, CIC, C3, SL-2R and CD4+/CD8+ in the peripheral venous blood were measured in the 1st and 2th week and 1st, 3rd, 6th month after operation. All patients were followed up and the limb function was evaluated according to Enneking standard.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The wounds of all patients smoothly healed after operation. Every immunological indicators had no significant difference between two groups. Serum calcium and phosphorus content did not significantly increased. Serum B-ALP of all patients were increased after operation, fell to normal levels in the internal fixation group, but remained at a relatively high level in the artificial bone group. All patients were followed-up for from 9 to 24 months (averaged 15 months). All patients get the excellent physical function.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The artificial bone has no immunogenicity, no rejection, does not affect the blood calcium and phosphorus content, and has higher osteogenic activity. It is affirmed that nanometer ceramics artificial bone is used to treat the smaller bone defect on clinical.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To study the effect of delayed release particles from vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on the reparation of ischemic injury of spinal cord in rats.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The spinal cord ischemia model of rats was established. The delayed release particles from VEGF were injected via the intubation of spinal subarachnoid space. The rehabilitation was observed by the assessment of unfold claw reflection, space between toes, spinal evoked potential (SEP) and motor evoked potential (MEP).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>VEGF prompted SEP and MEP appearance, improved the motor function of hind limbs.</p><p><b>CONCLUSIONS</b>VEGF can promote the rehabilitation of spinal cord ischemic injury of rats.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of multiple nerve entrapment in the brachial plexus and around anterior and middle scalene muscles in 179 cases. Methods From July 2003 to January 2006,179 outpatients in our department were diagnosed as thoracic outlet syndrome(TOS)with a variety of symptoms of the nerve entrapment in the brachial plexus and around anterior and middle scalene muscles. They were treated with drugs, local block injections,or operations, depending on their severity of the condition. Results Of the 128 cases who were followed up for one to 29 months, the symptoms were significantly relieved with drugs and massage in 55 cases, with local block injection in 58 cases of whom 24 received the second in- jection, with operation in 15 cases of whom 10 returned to work. One of the operated cases reported symptoms of injury to the long thoracic nerve which responded to further therapy. The visual analogue scale(VAS)evaluations after the first injection were one point in two cases, two points in 16 cases, three points in 20 cases, four points in 12 cases, five points in three cases, six points in three cases, and seven points in two cases. The VAS scores after the second injection were two points in five cases, three points in 16 cases, and four points in three cases. Conclusions The entrapment of the anterior anti middle scalene muscles can affect many nerves around the muscles, and cause clinical symptoms other than the TOS ones. The conservative treatment, such as drug, massage, and local block injection, can work well. When the non-operative methods do not work, operation can be consid- ered.
