ABSTRACT

cFos is one of the most widely-studied genes in the field of neuroscience. Currently, there is no systematic database focusing on cFos in neuroscience. We developed a curated database-cFos-ANAB-a cFos-based web tool for exploring activated neurons and associated behaviors in rats and mice, comprising 398 brain nuclei and sub-nuclei, and five associated behaviors: pain, fear, feeding, aggression, and sexual behavior. Direct relationships among behaviors and nuclei (even cell types) under specific stimulating conditions were constructed based on cFos expression profiles extracted from original publications. Moreover, overlapping nuclei and sub-nuclei with potentially complex functions among different associated behaviors were emphasized, leading to results serving as important clues to the development of valid hypotheses for exploring as yet unknown circuits. Using the analysis function of cFos-ANAB, multi-layered pictures of networks and their relationships can quickly be explored depending on users' purposes. These features provide a useful tool and good reference for early exploration in neuroscience. The cFos-ANAB database is available at www.cfos-db.net .

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the value of bedside lung ultrasound B-line score in the diagnosis of acute heart failure (AHF). Methods A retrospectively analysis was conducted. The adult patients presenting with acute dyspnea in intensive care unit (ICU) of Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from January 2016 to June 2017 were enrolled. An 8-zone lung ultrasound was performed and plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) level was tested in all patients. AHF was determined as the final diagnosis by two experienced ICU doctors according to the diagnostic criteria of AHF. Patients were divided into two groups: AHF group and non-AHF group. The levels of BNP and B-line score were compared between the two groups, and the diagnostic value of BNP and B-line score in AHF was evaluated. Results Fifty-six patients were included in this study, with 32 of men and 24 of women, and with an average age of 77.3±8.8. Thirty-six patients were diagnosed as AHF. The level of BNP and lung ultrasound B-line score in AHF group were higher than those in non-AHF group [BNP (ng/L): 1 640.4±1 078.4 vs. 236.9±124.9,B line score: 12.8±5.3 vs. 5.4±1.8, both 1 < 0.01]. There was a strong correlation between elevated BNP levels and an increased B-lines score (R2 = 0.712, 1 = 0.000). The receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) showed that when the cut-off of lung ultrasound B-line score was 8.5, AHF could be discriminated from dyspnea caused by other diseases (sensitivity was 77.8%, specificity was 95%, positive likelihood ratio was 15.56, negative likelihood ratio was 0.23).The area under the ROC curve (AUC) of lung ultrasound B-line score was 0.917 [95% confidence interval (95%CI) =0.847-0.987, 1 = 0.000], slightly lower than that of plasma BNP [0.979 (95%CI = 0.951-1.008)]. Conclusion Lung ultrasound B-line score was highly specific, but moderately sensitive for identifying patients with AHF.

ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the association between the left atrial appendage (LAA) volume and atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after radiofrequency catheter ablation.@*Methods@#We prospectively enrolled sixty-two patients with AF (40 cases with paroxysmal AF, 22 cases with persistent AF) who successfully underwent a first AF catheter ablation and had performed contrast-enhanced cardiac computed tomography (CT) prior to the procedure to measure LAA volumes in our hospital from January 2012 to August 2015. Circumferential pulmonary vein isolation was performed under the guidance of three-dimension mapping system (CARTO system). Linear ablation or ablation of complex fractioned atrial electrograms was also undertaken if necessary. All patients were followed up at the 3rd, 6th and 12th months after ablation by 24-hour ambulatory Holter monitoring, and were divided into the non-recurrence group (n=42) and the AF recurrence group (n=20). Univariate and multivariate Cox proportional hazards regression analysis were used to assess the factors related to AF recurrence. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was calculated to assess the best cut-off value of LAA volume to predict AF recurrence. Kaplan-Meier method was used to evaluate the rate of freedom from AF recurrence.@*Results@#Mean LAA volume in all patients was (9.5±3.6)ml. AF recurrence occurred in 20 patients (32%) during the follow-up period. The LAA volume was significantly larger in the AF recurrence group than in the non-recurrence group ((11.5±3.8)ml vs. (8.3±3.1)ml, P=0.002). In the univariate regression analysis, LAA volume (HR=1.36, 95%CI 1.14-1.82, P<0.001), persistent AF (HR=4.43, 95%CI 1.52-12.06, P<0.001) and hypertension (HR=1.61, 95%CI 1.13-2.04, P=0.041) were risk factors of AF recurrence. However, multivariate regression analysis revealed that LAA volume (HR=1.32, 95%CI 1.12-1.51, P<0.001) and persistent AF (HR=4.22, 95% CI 1.48-11.05, P<0.001) were independent predictors for AF recurrence after ablation. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis revealed that a LAA volume >8.80 ml was associated with AF recurrence after ablation (sensitivity: 94% and specificity: 66%, area under the curve=0.76). Kaplan-Meier analysis showed a lower rate free from AF recurrence in the group with LAA volume >8.80 ml (P<0.001).@*Conclusion@#Larger LAA volume is associated with AF recurrence after catheter ablation in patients with AF. A LAA volume greater than 8.80 ml could be used to predict AF recurrence after ablation.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo evaluate the effect of supply of fresh poultry products on reducing environment contamination of avian influenza virus (AIV) in markets in Guangzhou.

METHODSA total of 40 markets, including 20 selling alive poultry and 20 selling fresh poultry products, were selected randomly in Guangzhou to conduct environment surveillance in 80 poultry stalls every 4 months from July 2014 to April 2015. Four smear samples were collected from different sites of each poultry stall to detect nucleic acid of AIV. The positive samples were further detected for AIV subtype H5, H7 and H9 nucleic acids.

RESULTSAmong 40 alive poultry stalls, 95.0% (38/40) kept alive poultry overnight, 25.0% (10/40) were disinfected daily, 95.0% (38/40) were cleaned up weekly, 95.0% (38/40) were closed for one day every month. Among 40 fresh poultry product stalls, 20.0% (8/40) were disinfected daily, 90.0% (36/40) were cleaned up weekly, and 96.0% (38/40) ever sold dressed poultry from alive poultry markets. The positive rate of AIV in alive poultry markets was 40.4% (252/623), higher than that in fresh poultry product markets (32.3%, 197/610), the difference was significant (χ(2)=8.85, P=0.003), and the positive rate of subtype H9 virus in alive poultry markets was 28.6% (178/623), higher than that in fresh poultry product markets (16.2%, 99/610), the difference was significant (χ(2)=26.95, P<0.001). In fresh poultry product markets, the positive rate of AIV in stalls selling dressed poultry was 37.3% (180/482), higher than that in stalls selling no dressed poultry (13.3%, 17/128), the difference was significant (χ(2)=26.78, P<0.001), and the positive rate of subtype H9 virus in stalls selling dressed poultry was 19.1% (92/482), higher than that in stalls selling no dressed poultry (5.5%, 7/128), the difference was significant (χ(2)=13.80, P<0.001). Both the positive rate of AIV and the positive rate of subtype H9 virus were highest in the second round surveillance (October 2014). The differences in AIV and its subtype H5, H7 and H9 virus positive rates of environmental samples from four different sites were not significant, respectively. In the same sample site, the positive rate of subtype H9 virus in alive poultry markets was higher than that in fresh poultry product markets the difference was significant (P<0.05).

CONCLUSIONSThe supply of fresh poultry products could effectively reduce the level of environment contamination of AIV in markets. Dressed poultry supplement caused the risk of AIV spread in fresh poultry product markets.
