ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the difference of Theory of Mind (ToM) processing (especially in social-perceptual component and social-cognitive component) in male methamphetamine (METH) addicts, and test whether the deficits of ToM is correlated with their psychotic symptoms or not. Methods Thirty METH addicts with psychotic symptoms (METH-P group), 31 METH addicts with no psychotic symptoms (METH-NP group) and 41 healthy controls (control group) were recruited. Eyes Task and Faux pas Task were used to test the social-perceptual component and social-cognitive component in all participants. The psychotic symptoms of METH addicts were assessed using Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS). Results Compared with control group, performance was poor in Eyes Task and Faux pas Questions in both METH-P group and METH-NP group (P<0.05). Performance in Eyes Task was poorer in METH-P group than in METH-NP group (P<0.05). There were no significant differences in performance in Faux pas Questions scores between METH-P group and METH-NP group (P>0.05). Multivariate linear regression analysis demonstrated that BPRS positive symptom score were correlated with Eyes Task scores of METH addicts (β=-0.415, P=0.001). Conclusions METH addicts exhibit deficits in both ToM social-perceptual component and ToM social-cognitive component. METH-associated psychosis are related to the deficit in social-perceptual component of ToM.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the difference of cognitive function in patients of first-episode schizophrenia with and without metabolic syndrome. Methods Event related potential detection and Wechsler Memory Scale (WMS) was determined in 57 patients of first-episode schizophrenia with metabolic syndrome (research group) and 57 patients of first-episode schizophrenia without metabolic syndrome (control group),and the psychiatric symptom in two groups was assessed by the application of the positive and negative symptoms scale (PANSS).Results The memory quotient score was (78.51 ± 12.54) scores in research group, and (92.01 ± 17.49) scores in control group, and there was significant difference between two groups (t =-2.130,P=0.047).The short-term memory, instantaneous memory impairment in research group were lower than those in control group(t =2.151-3.054,P=0.007-0.046).The latency of P300 was (325.10 ±22.46) ms in research group and (284.60 ±22.46) ms in control group, and there was significant difference (t =3.454,P =0.003).The amplitude was (6.56 ± 1.61) μ V in research group and (9.78 ±1.73) μV in control group, and there was significant difference (t =-4.307,P =0.000).Conclusion The patients of first-episode schizophrenia with metabolism syndrome has more severe cognitive impairment than those without metabolism syndrome.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo study the expressions of β-catenin in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) tissue, adjacent cirrhotic liver tissue and hemangioma-surrounding liver tissue to understand whether their difference in expression will influence on the prognosis and to study the relationship between Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and HNF-1α expression.

METHODS50 specimens of HCC, 50 specimens of adjacent cirrhotic liver tissue and 7 specimens of hemangioma-surrounding liver tissue were used to detect the differences in the expression of β-catenin and HNF-1α in them by immunohistochemistry.

RESULTSThe expression rate of β-catenin was 74.0% (37/50) in the HCC tissue, 18.0% (9/50) in cirrhotic liver tissue, and 14.3% (1/7) in hemangioma-surrounding liver tissue. The expression rate of β-catenin in HCC tissue was significantly higher than that in the hemangioma-surrounding liver tissue (P = 0.002) and cirrhotic liver tissue (P < 0.001). The patients with abnormal expression had worse prognosis. Among the 50 HCC cases, the expression of HNF-1α was negative in 20.0% (10/50), weak positive in 40.0% (20/50), moderately positive in 26.0% (13/50), and strong positive in 14.0% (7/50). Among the 50 adjacent cirrhotic liver tissues, the expression of HNF-1α was negative in 12.0% (6/50), weak positive in 20.0% (10/50), moderately positive in 52.0% (26/50) and strong positive in 16.0% (8/50). In the 7 cases of hemangioma-surrounding liver tissue, the expression of HNF-1α was negative in 0(0/7), weak positive in 14.3% (1/7), moderately positive in 28.6% (2/7) and strong positive in 57.1% (4/7). The positive expression rate of HNF-1α in the HCC tissue was significantly lower than that in the hemangioma-surrounding liver tissues (P = 0.029) and adjacent cirrhotic liver tissues (P = 0.008). The patients with positive HNF-1α expression had a better prognosis. The abnormal expression of β-catenin was negatively correlated with positive HNF-1α expression (r = -0.673, P < 0.001).

CONCLUSIONSThe occurrence and development of HCC is related to the abnormal β-catenin expression. There is a negative correlation between Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and HNF-1α expression.

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the CT manifestations of mesenteric panniculitis,so that to improve CT diagnosis of mesenteric panniculitis. Methods Seven patients with mesenteric panniculitis, which were diagnosed according to the CT criteria, were analyzed. Results The fatty masses with defined margins and around the root of the jejunum were found in all patients at CT scan, and there were no enhancement after administration of contrast medium. The masses were sharply defined with abdominal and retroperitoneal fat. There were pseudo-capsule in 7, "arcus adiposus sign" in 5. Enlargement of lymph nodes in the masses and retroperitoneum in 2 cases were seen,respectively.4 patients had abdominal operations, one patient was in combination with carcinoma of head of pancrease. Conclusion Certain features of the CT manifestations of mesenteric panniculitis can be found,CT is effective for the diagnosis of mesenteric panniculitis.
