ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore the mediating effect of expectations regarding aging between social support and frailty in elderly patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), so as to promote better health education among medical staff and improve patients′ ability to cope with frailty. Methods:This was a cross-sectional study, the convenience sampling method was used to select 258 elderly COPD patients hospitalized in the Department of Respiratory Medicine and Geriatrics of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region People′s Hospital from November 2021 to April 2022. They were investigated by the general information questionnaire, Fried Scale, Social Support Scale and Expectations Regarding Aging-21. Analyzed the correlation among social support, expectations regarding aging and frailty. AMOS 26.0 was used to investigate the mediating effect of expectations regarding aging between social support and frailty in elderly COPD patients. Results:The score of social support, expectations regarding aging and frailty in elderly patients with COPD was (30.45 ± 5.57), (35.25 ± 6.28) and (2.34 ± 1.71)points, respectively. There was negative correlation between social support and frailty in elderly COPD patients ( r=-0.541, P<0.01), while positive correlation between social support and expectations regarding aging ( r=0.477, P<0.01). The negative correlation between social support and expectations regarding aging ( r=-0.536, P<0.01). Expectations regarding aging played a partial mediating role between social support and frailty, with mediating effect value of -0.229, accounting for 35.39% of the total effect. Conclusions:Expectations regarding aging is a mediator variable between social support and frailty in elderly COPD patients. Health care providers can alleviate or even reverse patients' debilitating condition by improving their expectations regarding aging and social support.

Methods Totally 660 critical nurses in 21 ICUs from four integrated third-grade class-A hospitals and two third-grade class-A specialized subject hospitals of Urumqi were selected using cluster random sampling and investigated on KAP about physical restraints. Results The average score of physical restraints knowledge was 3.53 ± 1.77. The total awareness rate was 50.43%. The average score of physical restraints attitude was 78.43±11.05. The practice of physical restraints turned out to be at middle level. The average score of physical restraints practice was 128.11 ± 9.60. Conclusions ICU nurses in Urumqi third-grade class-A hospitals generally lack of physical restraints knowledge, however, they were active in physical restraints attitude and practice, there is still some shortcomings, so it is advisable for relevant departments taking targeted intervention measures to improve ICU nurses cognition of physical restraints, then meliorate their physical restraints practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective To discuss the feasibility and applicability in prognosis prediction of t he National Early Warning Score (NEWS) for stroke patients in emergency department through comparing NEWS and modified early warning score(MEWS). Methods 1 195 cases of stroke patients for NEWS and MEWS from May 2013 to June 2015 in emergency centerwere chosen, and were tracked prognosis for 30 days, two score prediction ability were compared. Results When took death as prediction index, the area under the ROC curve of NEWS was AZ=0.906, sensitivity was 84.1%,specificity was 86.1%,best truncated point was 4.5 score; The area under the ROC curve of MEWS was AZ=0.846,sensitivity was 80.5%,specificity was 77.9%,best truncated point was 2.5 score, the difference was statistically significant between them (Z=3.324,P<0.05).It showed that NEWS had higher value than MEWS in prognosis prediction for stroke patients in emergency department. Conclusions NEWS score is a good tool to predict stroke patients in emergency department, which has better value than MEWS.
