ABSTRACT

Objective:To summarize the characteristics of 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) PET/CT imaging in adult patients with infectious mononucleosis (IM). Methods:18F-FDG PET/CT imaging data and clinical data of 5 IM patients (all males, age 18-77 years) detected in the Department of Nuclear Medicine of the East Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University from July 2015 to July 2019 were analyzed retrospectively. Distribution of lymphatic tissues in the lesions (lymph nodes, tonsils, bone marrow, liver, etc) and 18F-FDG radioactive uptake in the lesions were analyzed semiquantitatively. Results:In 5 patients with IM, the volume of superficial lymph nodes (mainly distributed in the neck, axilla, and groin lymph nodes) and deep lymph nodes (mainly distributed in the mediastinum, hilum of lung, abdominal cavity and posterior abdominal cavity) increased to varying degrees, as well as the FDG uptake. Maximum standardized uptake value (SUV max) of superficial lymph nodes were 1.2-7.3, and those of deep lymph nodes were 3.5-9.7. All patients showed diffuse uptake of FDG in bone marrow, with SUV max of 3.0-7.9. All patients had pharyngeal tonsillar enlargement and FDG uptake increasing, with SUV max of 1.7-13.4. Compared with patients with lymphoma, IM patients had more organ involvement and relatively lower radioactive uptake. Conclusion:18F-FDG PET/CT imaging features of IM can help the diagnosis of IM.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the effect of geniposide (GE) on diabetic cardiomyopathy and its mechanism. METHODS: Twenty-four adult male SD rats were randomly divided into three groups: Control group (n=8), DCM group (n=8) and DCM+ GE group (n=8). The diabetic cardiomyopathy model was established by high fat diet combined with streptozotocin (STZ), and H9C2 injury model was induced by hypochlorite (HOCl). After 12 weeks of intervention, the histopathological changes of heart were observed by HE and Masson staining, the level of cardiomyocyte apoptosis was detected by TUNEL staining, and the expression levels of VPO1/ERK1/2 signal pathway and apoptosis-related proteins were detected by immunohistochemistry and Western blot. The changes of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2, Bcl-2 and Bax protein expression in cardiomyocytes were detected by Western blot after HOCl stimulation. After administration of ERK1/2 inhibitor U0126, the protein expression levels of ERK1/2, p-ERK1/2, Bcl-2 and Bax were detected again by Western blot assay. RESULTS: Compared with the control group, the arrangement of myocardial fibers was disordered and the content of myocardial collagen was significantly increased in DCM group by HE and Masson staining, while the myocardial injury was significantly improved in DCM+GE group (P<0.05). Compared with the control group, the apoptotic rates of cardiomyocytes and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 in DCM group were remarkably increased, while the myocardial apoptosis in DCM+GE group was significantly improved (P<0.05). The results of immunohistochemistry and Western blot showed that the expression of VPO1 and p-ERK1/2 was increased in DCM group, while the expression level of VPO1 and p-ERK1/2 was inhibited in DCM+GE group (P<0.05). When H9C2 cells were stimulated with HOCl, the expression of p-ERK1/2 and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 were both increased as compared with the control group, while the expression level of p-ERK1/2 and the ratio of Bax/Bcl-2 were decreased after the addition of ERK1/2 inhibitor U0126 (P<0.05). CONCLUSION: Geniposide alleviates the diabete-induced myocardial injury by suppressing cardiomyocyte apoptosis via inhibiting VPO1/ERK1/2 signal pathway.

ABSTRACT

Epidemiologic evidence suggests that diabetes mellitus appears to be negatively associated with abdominal aortic aneurysm formation. Diabetes mellitus may affect the physiological characteristics of the aorta and reduce the prevalence, incidence and expansion rate of abdominal aortic aneurysm. But the impact of diabetes mellitus on the rupture, operative complication and clinical outcome of abdominal aortic aneurysm is unclear. Randomized controlled trials are needed before conclusions can be drawn on the link between development and expansion of abdominal aortic aneurysm and medicines for diabetes. This review aims to analyze updated evidence of the association between diabetes mellitus and abdominal aortic aneurysm.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the anti-proliferation effect of carvacrol on human gastric cancer cell BGC-823 and explore the molecular mechanism. Methods:The proliferation of BGC-823 cells was evaluated by MTT assay. Flow cytometry was used to ana-lyze the cell apoptosis after exposed to carvacrol. Transwell assay was used to analyze the effect of carvacrol on cell metastasis. Quanti-tative realtime-PCR was used to detect the expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1. The expression of caspase-9 and PARP,and the activa-tion of ERK and P38 were detected by Western blot. Results:The incubation with carvacrol resulted in a significant inhibition of BGC-823 cell proliferation. After the treatment with carvacrol, the apoptotic rate was significantly increased( 0 μmol · L-1 vs 10 μmol · L-1 ,P<0. 000 1;0 μmol·L-1 vs 20 μmol·L-1 ,P<0. 000 1;0 μmol·L-1 vs 40 μmol·L-1 ,P<0. 000 1;0 μmol·L-1 vs 80μmol·L-1 ,P<0. 000 1)and the invasion ability was decreased(0 μmol·L-1 vs 80 μmol·L-1 ,P<0. 000 1). The expression of caspase-9(0 μmol·L-1 vs 80 μmol·L-1,P<0. 000 1)and TIMP-1 was increased(P<0. 000 1),PRAP fragment occurred(P<0. 000 1)and P38 signaling pathway was activated in the carvacrol treated group, while the expression of MMP-9 activity of ERK signa-ling pathway was inhibited(P<0.000 1). Conclusion:Carvacrol can inhibit cell growth and invasion, and induce cell apoptosis, which is closely related to MAPK signaling pathway.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effects of different surgical treatments on polycystic hepatic disease and multiple simple hepatic cysts. Methods A total of 35 cases of polycystic hepatic disease and 54 cases of multiple simple hepatic cysts were surgically treated in our department from Jan.1998 to Jan.2006.Of the 35 cases of polycystic hepatic disease,12 were treated with the partial hepatic resection in combination with cyst fenestration,18 with laparotomic fenestration,5 with laparoscopic fenestration.Of the 54 cases of multiple simple hepatic cysts,6were treated with percutaneons aspiration and instillation of sclerosing agents (ethanol) under the guidance of ultrasonography B,36 with laparotomic fenestration,13 with laparoscopic fenestration. The surgical outcome and longterm follow-up outcome were retrospectively analyzed. Results After treatment, all polycystic hepatic disease patients experienced relief of symptoms when discharged. And the follow-up for an average of 3.0 years showed that 2 patients developed recurrence after the partial hepatic resection in combination with cyst fenestration,8 after the laparotomic fenestration,5 after the laparoscopic fenestration. The recurring rates were 16.7%,44.4% and 100.0% ,respectively. However, all patients of multiple simple liver cysts cured. Conclusions The approach of partial hepatic resection in combination with cyst fenestration is the most effective treatment for polycystic hepatic disease.Liver transplantation can cure polycystic hepatic disease, and is the only effective approach for severe cases.Percutaneous aspiration under the guidance of ultrasonography B is only effective for relief of symptoms before operation.Laparoscopic fenestration should be applied with caution.Laparoscopic fenestration is the first choice for multiple simple hepatic cysts with clinical symptoms.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Peak bone mass and standard deviation (SD) in different regions are varied, which have great influence on diagnosis of osteoporosis. To establish a complete database can provide accurate evidence for osteoporosis diagnosis. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the influence of bone mineral densities (BMD) and their SD of young people on the detective rate of osteoporosis in general population. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Investigation analysis was performed at Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Jiaxing and Chengdu between January 1997 and December 1999. PARTICIPANTS: 11418 subjects from related 6 centers of BMD reference database in China were investigated and analyzed using prospective and retrospective methods, including 3 666 males, and 7 752 females aged 20-90 years. Of them, 2385 were from Beijing, 1178 from Guangzhou, 1404 from Shanghai, 2938 from Nanjing, 1425 from Chengdu, and 2088 from Jiaxing. The subjects were selected from community investigation, physical examination volunteers. METHODS: BMD of the lumbar spine (L2-4) and the hip in 11, 418 subjects from the related 6 centers in China was measured with GE-Lunar dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) and the BMD reference database was established. The accuracy rate of the inner machine was 0.3%-0.7%, and the accuracy of different machines averaged 1.1%. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Lumbar BMD distribution of different age groups from 6 centers; influence of young people's BMD and its SD on detective rate of osteoporosis. RESULTS: Different BMD and SD were found in the individual subject from 6 centers, and the maximum differences were 0.098 g/cm2 and 0.027 g/cm2. With mean BMD and SD of the individuals from 6 centers as references, different T-scores and the detective rates of osteoporosis derived from the T-scores were found in the same group. The detective rate increased by 1.6% when BMD of the young people increased by 0.01 g/cm2 (positive correlation), but the detective rate decreased by 4% when SD increased by 0.01g/cm2 (negative correlation). CONCLUSION: Changes in BMD and SD of the young people can influence the detective rate of osteoporosis. To achieve comparability for the detective rate of osteoporosis in different centers, the specific reference database should be established for the same race, the same area, and the same bone densitometry machine. The T-score should be determined with the normal BMD and SD of the young, people as the reference database.
