ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus and processed with vinegar on lipid metabolism of rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods The rat model of T2DM was induced by high fat diet plus STZ. The rats were randomly divided into blank group, model group, Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus high-dose group and low-dose group, and vinegar Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus high-dose group and low- dose group. The rats in each group were fed with the corresponding medicine for gavage for 30 d. FINS, FFA, TC, TG, HDL-C, LDL-C, and MDH, total protein content of liver tissue were detected. HE staining was used to observe the histomorphological changes of liver and pancreas in rats. Results Compared with the model group, Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus groups and vinegar Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus groups did not show obvious effects on improving FBG and FINS, but it could raise varying degrees of HDL-C and MDH, and reduce FFA, LDL-C, TC, and TG, among which vinegar Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus could significantly regulate metabolism in T2DM rats. Conclusion Vinegar Schisandrae Sphenantherae Fructus can enhance the lipid metabolism regulatory function of T2DM rats.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:To study the extracting and purifying process of Achyranthes bidentata polysaccharides(ABP). METHODS:Crude polysaccharide was obtained by extracting ABP raw material by water decocting method. The Crude polysaccharide was purified(deproteinization, desalination and alcohol precipitation) to obtain ABP.The content of total polysaccharide was taken as an evaluation index to optimize the optimum conditions of extracting and purifying.RESULTS: The optimum water decoction conditions were as follows:ABP raw material was extracted three times (2 h/time) by adding 10 times amount of water. As for the deproteinization process,TCA(trichloracetic acid) method was superior to Sevage method and tannic acid method;Desalination by molecular sieve was superior to that by dialysis method; and alcohol precipitation was performed with 80% alcohol.CONCLUSION:ABP can be prepared by water decoction, deproteinization, desalination and alcohol precipitation of its raw material.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the curative effect of valsartan associated with low-dose amiodarone on the recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF), the left atrial diameter (LAD), P wave dispersion (Pd) and the maximum P wave duration (Pmax) in patients with paroxysmal AF. Methods 76 patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (PAF) were randomized to valsartan (test group) and placebo (placebo group), both associated with low-dose amiodarone, and were followed up for 18 months. The patients were asked to report any episode of symptomatic atrial fibrillation and to perform an ECG as early as possible. AF load, Pmax, Pd and LAD were measured before and at the 6th, 12th, and 18th months after the treatment. Results At least one ECG-documented episode of AF was reported in 16% of the patients in test group and in 41% in placebo group, the difference was significant(P

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the therapeutic mechanism of Polygonum cuspidatum extract on the gouty arthritis induced by monosodium urate (MSU). Method Acute gouty arthritis rats model was induced by MSU. Twelve hours after modeling, the positive expression area and integral optical density of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and nuclear factor-?B p65 protein (NF-?Bp65) in synovial membrane were observed by immunohistochemical assay. The effect of Polygonum cuspidatum extract on ICAM-1 and NF-?Bp65 was observed. Results There existed less expression of ICAM-1 and NF-?B p65 protein on synovial membrane in the normal group, and their expression was much increased in the model group. Polygonum cuspidatum extract in the dose of 360 mg/kg significantly reduced the positive expression area and integral optical density of ICAM-1 and NF-?Bp65 protein. Conclusion Polygonum cuspidatum extract can inhibit the abnormal expression and activation of ICAM-1 and NF-?Bp65 in synovial tissue, which may be an important therapeutic and preventive mechanism for gouty arthritis.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the influence of sea sickness elixir on changes in cardiar rhythm in subjects susceptible to sea-sickness. Methods In a double-blind control test, 50 volunteers, 10 persons not susceptible to sea-sickness (controll group) and 40 persons susceptible to sea-sickness to travel their first sea voyage were enrolled. They were divided into three groups, control group (n=10), placebo group (n=20) and test group (n=20). Sea sickness elixir or placebo was administered half an hour before the sea voyage. The 4h dynamic electrocardiogram was collected and the changes in heart rhythm was analyzed using time-domain, frequency domain analysis methods. Meanwhile the symptoms of sea sickness were recorded. Results Sea sickness elixir did have the effect of preventing sea-sickness. The effective rate in the test group (85%) was significantly higher than control group (20%) (P

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the preventive effect against sea-sickness of “anti-sick syrup” and “prevent-sick syrup” on voyage at sea. Methods A double-blind controlled trial was carried out in landing craft. 986 volunteers unaccustomed to sailing in their fist voyage at sea were divided into four groups, control group and group A to C, with ingestion, half an hour before setting sail, of placebo syrup, “anti-sick syrup”, “prevent-sick syrup” and “anti-sick syrup” plus “prevent-sick syrup”, respectively. The symptoms of seasickness were then recorded. Results The prophylactic effects have shown in all the groups. However, the effects shown in control group were significantly less than that in other groups (P
