ABSTRACT

Objective:To compare the quality and diagnostic utility of the three sequences including fast spin echo (FSE), multi-acquisition variable resonance image combination selective (MAVRIC-SL), and isotropic MAVRIC-SL (iso MAVRIC-SL), in evaluating the intervertebral foramen and spinal canal in patients after lateral lumbar interbody fusion (LLIF).Methods:Totally 30 patients after LLIF were enrolled prospectively from May to June 2020 in the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University. The patients underwent MRI of the lumbar spine including sagittal MAVRIC-SL and iso MAVRIC-SL sequence three-dimensional volume imaging, and the axial spinal canal level images were reconstructed. FSE sequence sagittal T 1WI and axial T 2WI images were acquired simultaneously. The sagittal and axial images were subjectively graded for visualization of the intervertebral foramen and spinal canal. The artifact area and SNR were measured. The Friedman M test was used to compare the differences in image quality scores, artifact area and SNR among the three sequences. Results:Nonparametric test results showed significant differences in sagittal and axial image quality scores among the three sequences (both P<0.001). Sagittal image quality scores of MAVRIC-SL [4 (4, 4) points] and iso MAVRIC-SL [4 (4, 4) points] were higher than those of FSE T 1WI sequence [3 (3, 3) points, both P<0.001]. The quality scores of MAVRIC-SL and iso MAVRIC-SL showed no significant differences ( P=1.000). The axial image quality score of iso MAVRIC-SL[5 (5, 5) points] were higher than those of MAVRIC-SL [4 (4, 4) points] and FSE T 2WI [3 (3, 3) points, both P<0.05]. The iso MAVRIC-SL images enabled a significantly improved reduction in the artifact area and SNR compared to the MAVRIC-SL and FSE sequence (all P<0.05). Conclusion:The iso MAVRIC-SL acquisitions enhance visualization of the intervertebral foramen and spinal canal and decrease metal artifacts compared with MAVRIC-SL and FSE acquisitions.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To develop a radioactive sewage purification device that can effectively filter the nuclides in low-level nuclide-contaminated wastewater. METHODS: The radioactive sewage purification device was composed of lifting pump, stack filter, multi-medium filter, security filter, tubular ultrafiltration membrane, high-pressure pump and reverse osmotic membrane. The combined process of adsorption-ultrafiltration-reverse osmosis was used to separate radioactive elements from wastewater by reverse osmosis membrane separation system. Through two-stage multi-medium filter circulation system circulation treatment, radioactive sewage was purified. The flow rate of water treatment is 20 L/min. The filtration efficiency and purification efficiency of the device were tested by filtration experiments on elements containing radionuclide and purification experiments on radionuclide.RESULTS: The filtration efficiency on iodine, potassium, strontium and cesium, that are the common elements in radioactive sewage samples were 97.88%, 98.38%, 99.99% and 99.80%, respectively. The single purification efficiency of radionuclide ~(40)K in low-level radioactive sewage was over 90.00%. CONCLUSION: The device has high filtering efficiency for common elements such as iodine, potassium, strontium and cesium in sewage and high removal rate of radioactive activity for sewage containing ~(40)K. It can be further optimized and transformed into a suitable radioactive sewage water purifier.

ABSTRACT

In our country, the prevalence of type 1 and type 2 diabetes is increasing year by year, while the glucose management of diabetic patients is indeed not satisfactory.Glycosylated hemoglobin, as an indicator of blood glucose management, has certain limitations. So, it is particularly important to explore other valuable evaluation indicators. Some studies found that, time-in-target-range of glucose is highly correlated with average blood glucose and has a linear negative correlation with glycosylated hemoglobin.Time in range(TIR) will be a key indicator for evaluating blood glucose compliance. In addition to blood glucose assessment, monitoring TIR can also reduce the frequency and duration of hypoglycemia in type 1 diabetes patients, improving the quality of life in type 1 diabetes patients.Besides that, TIR can also be used to assess the occurrence of microvascular and macrovascular complications in type 2 diabetes patients. Therefore, TIR is important for glucose management type 1 and type 2 diabetes patients.

ABSTRACT

Pinch-3 protein is an important constituent of cell membranes, which directly affects the cell morphology and mechanical properties. We observed and compared the change of morphology and cell traction force of glomerular podocytes before and after Pinch-3 gene inhibition by gene interference technology in this experiment. We found that a number of pores appeared on the cell surface, and the cell projected area were increased at the same time, with an approximate average about an increase of 40% after Pinch-3 gene inhibition. The results showed that the cell traction force of glomerular podocytes was significantly reduced, with an approximate average decrease of 40%, the maximum value of the cell traction force was reduced and the distribution of cell traction force became dispersive. All this suggested that after Pinch-3 gene inhibition, some pores created on the cell surface influenced the physical properties of glomerular podocytes and then affected the cell projected area and influenced the formation and distribution of cell traction force of the glomerular podocytes as well.

ABSTRACT

Objective To obtain the effective characteristic information for the standardization of diagnosis of traditional Chinese medical(TCM) syndrome in rheumatoid arthritis(RA).Methods Fifty-four items of symptoms and signs in RA patients were input into the computer, and Mahalanobis distance discriminant analysis(DDA) was used for the selection of effective indexes. Results According to the weight value and the result of T test,17 items from 54 had the highest rate of discrimination accuracy,up to 96.5%.Conclusion The results of computerized pattern recognition for the syndrome diagnosis of RA are consistent with the clinical diagnosis, which indicates that computerized pattern recognition can be used for the standardization of syndrome diagnosis of RA.
