ABSTRACT

Purpose To investigate the pathological characteristics of loco-regional recurrent nasopharyngeal carcinoma ( rNPC ) . Methods Nasopharyngeal biopsy specimens of 46 rNPCs and 63 primary NPCs were collected. HE staining, immunohistochemistry and EBV small RNAs ( EBERs) in-situ hybridization were performed. Results The over-expression rates of both p63 and CK5/6 in rNPC were significantly higher than those of primary NPCs (P=0. 005, P=0. 026), while no statistical significance of Ki-67 over-ex-pression existed between the two groups ( P=0. 387 ) . More necrotic tissues, inflammatory exudates, giant bizarre carcinoma cells, desmoplastic stroma, giant bizarre tumor cells and higher degree of squamous differentiation were found in rNPCs. The carcinoma cells of 5 rNPCs were negative for both EBERs in-situ hybridization and LMP-1 immunohistochemical staining. Conclusion The loco-re-gional rNPC has two peaks of latency interval:2~5 and 9~11 years. The loco-regional rNPC cells have higher degree of squamous differentiation with higher expression of p63 and CK5/6, as well as more invasive ability. In addition, both EBERs in-situ hybridization and LMP-1 immunostaining are negative in 10. 87% (5/46) of loco-regional rNPC.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVEEvaluate the prognostic value of lymph node ratio (LNR) in patients undergoing resection of stage III colorectal cancer.

METHODSThe clinicopathological and follow-up data were collected from 174 surgical patients with stage III colorectal cancer. The 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier method. The impact of LNR and clinicopathological factors on DFS and OS were evaluated using univariate and multivariate analysis.

RESULTSAfter a median follow-up of 62.5 months, the 5-year DFS and OS of the patients were 51.8% and 56.3%, respectively. The median number of lymph nodes harvested and the median number of positive lymph nodes examined were 10 and 3, respectively. The patients were stratified into 4 groups according to LNR quartiles (LNR1, LNR≤0.125; LNR2, 0.125<LNR≤0.260; LNR3, 0.260<LNR≤0.500; LNR4, LNR>0.500), whose 5-year DFS and OS were 64.2%, 53.5%, 41.8%, and 25.7% (P<0.05) and 68.1%, 60.8%, 49.2%, and 32.7% (P<0.05), respectively. Multivariate analysis identified age, T stage and LNR as the independent predictors of both DFS and OS. Subgroup analysis showed that LNR had an independent prognostic value on DFS and OS irrespective of the number of lymph nodes harvested.

CONCLUSIONLNR is an independent prognostic factor for survival in patients with stage III colorectal cancer and is superior to the pN category in TNM staging.

ABSTRACT

ObjectiveTo explore effective treatment for moderate and severe neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy(HIE).Methods46 cases of moderate to severe HIE were randomly divided into two groups.Control group of 21 cases only accepted the HIE conventional treatment, treatment group,25 cases accepted the HIE conventional treatment and were also given brain protein hydrolyzate combined naloxone treatment, the efficacy of various clinical indicators of the two groups were compared.ResultsThe remarkable effective rate and the total effective rate of the treatment group were significantly higher ( all P < 0.01 ).Consciousness recovery time, recovery time of the original ability, convulsions, muscle tension, recovery time, sucking ability, recovery time, hospital days of treatment group were significantly lower than the control group( P < 0.05 or P < 0.01 ).ConclusionThe effect of naloxone therapy for moderate to severe HIE is significant, and the therapy has high clinical value.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the molluscicidal effect of 2 kinds of shamingdan in lab. Methods Under constant temperature (25?1) ℃, the studies were carried out by using different concentrations(dosages) of molluscicide, shamingdan, in various methods of immersing, spraying and dusting power, and the molluscicidal effects were compared with 50% wettable powder of niclosamide ethanolamine salt(WPN). Results The 48-hour's LC_ 50(s) of 4% shamingdan granular formulation and 50% shamingdan soluble powder were 0.1752 mg/L and 0.2713 mg/L, respectively, which were similar to that of 50% WPN. In spraying and dusting powder experiment, the 7-day's LC_ 50(s) were 3.0418, 0.1623 g/m~2 and 2.8752, 1.1101 g/m~2, respectively, and the 50% shamingdan soluble powder was better than 4% shamingdan granular formulation and 50% WPN. Conclusions The molluscicidal effect of 2 kinds of shamingdan using immersing is better than that using spraying and dusting. The molluscicidal effect of the 50% shamingdan soluble powder is remarkably better than that of the 4% shamingdan granular formulation and 50% WPN.
