ABSTRACT

Objective To assess the prognostic significance of pre-treatment hypercoagulable state in cervical cancer patients. Methods With retrospective analysis, pre-treatment coagulation indicators and platelets from 321 cervical cancer patients from stages I to IV were collected. The pre-treatment coagulation parameters were investigated along with tumor stage and survival data. Result Advanced tumor stage was associated with elevated fibrinogen (Fbg) and platelet (PLT) levels (P < 0.05). Patients with higher levels of Fgb, PTA and PLT suffered from higher risk of recurrence (P<0.05). Multivariate survival analyses showed that tumor stage, Fgb and PTA were independent prognostic factors for disease free survival. Conclusion Coagulation parameters can be served as useful tool for predicting recurrence of cervical cancer.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the efficacy and adverse effects of the three dimensional conformal radia- tion therapy(3D-CRT) concurrently combined with chemotherapy for limited stage small cell lung cancer(LSCLC). Methods 33 patients with LSCLC received 6 cycles EP(cisplatin, etoposide) chemotherapy and 3 weeks was a cy- cle. The conventional radiotherapy was given after the first cycle chemotherapy or the third cycle chemotherapy, then the 3D-CRT and the total dose of the primary tumor was 45Gy per 3 weeks,1.5Gy for once, twice for a day. Results Toxicity was durable in 33 patients received 3D-CRT concurrently combined with chemotherapy. The total re- sponse was 97 %. Median time was 21.9 months, and the 1-,2-, 3-year survival rates was 69.7 % ,51.5 %, 30.3 %. The 1-,2-, 3-year local progress ion-freely survival rates were 66.7 %, 45.5 %, 30.3 %, respectively, with the median local progression-freely survival time of 18.5 months. Respectively during three year follow-up visit. Conclusion The 3D-CRT concurrently combined with chemotherapy for patients with limited stage small cell lung cancer could be more effectively, and the patients could tolerate the side effects, this therapy method was secure and received.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Impoverished undergraduate is a new and special group appearing under the market economy. Strengthening depth and extent is necessary to probe into and study it.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the social support of impoverished undergraduates and probe into its effect on mental health of impoverished undergraduates.DESIGN: Cross-section survey, clustering stratified sampling SETTING: College of Education of Jiangxi Normal University PARTICIPANTS: Totally 445 impoverished undergraduates of Jiangxi Normal University, Nanchang University, Jiangxi Medical College, East China Jiaotong University and so on of nanchang city were recruited in October 2002. All the participants were volunteers.METHODS: Social Support Rating Scale (SSRS) was used to evaluate the social support of impoverished undergraduates. The scale is composed of 10 items including objective support, subjective support, and utilization degree of support. Symptom Checklist 90 (SCL-90) was used to evaluate the mental health status of impoverished undergraduates. SCL-90 has 90 tests, using 1 to 5 degree to score( from not present to severe), including somatization, obsessive compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity, depression, anxiety, hostility, phobic anxiety, paranoid ideation, psychoticism (9 factors). During the process of investigation, the testee was tested singly in 2 hours without interference and influence of others. The questionnaires were taken back and the authenticity and validity of the questionnaires was verified.RESULTS: All the 500 questionnaires handed out were taken back. Totally 445 pieces of effective questionnaires were involved in the analysis with the effective rate of 89%. ① There was significant difference in objective support and utilization degree of the support between the impoverished undergraduate of either gender (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05); ②There were significant differences in subjective support and utilization degree of support between only-child and non-only-child (P < 0.01 or P < 0.05);③ There was significant difference in utilization degree of the support between impoverished undergraduates from city and impoverished undergraduates from country(P < 0.01 or P < 0.05 );④Obvious correlation existed between mental health and social support of the impoverished undergraduates;⑤Through regression analysis, it showed that social support had significant effect on the mental health of impoverished undergraduate (F= 12.770,P=0.000).CONCLUSION: Significant difference existed between different genders,only-child or non-only-child, impoverished undergraduates coming from urban area or rural area. Social support has significant effect on the mental health of impoverished undergraduates.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the risk factors affecting the quality of life (QOL) of patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSAS) and the influence of nasal continual positive airway pressure (nCPAP) treatment on the QOL of OSAS patients. Methods Measuring the quality of life of 212 patients suffered from OSAS with WHOQOL-BREF and analyzing the influences of the sleepiness, quality of sleep, chronic disease and nCPAP treatment on the QOL of patients with OSAS. Results The scores on physical domain and psychological domain of patients who were sleepiness or had bad quality of sleep were less than that of patients who were non-sleepiness or had a good sleep respectively(P

ABSTRACT

Purpose:To investigate the susceptible factors and treatment against cross infection in hospital of cancer patients.Methods:174 cases of cross infection in hospital of cancer patients from 1997 to 1999 were analyzed for infective site, infective agent and infectious bacteria. Results:174 cases of cross infection in hospital of cancer patients were found, which was 10.45% of the in paitents of the same period. The majority (108/174) had infection of tissues and organs within irradiation fields after radiotherapy. Respiratory tract infection rate was 76.43%. 16 cases (40.0%) were found to have secondary infection of digestive canal after chemotherapy in the 40 cases of infection of digestive canal. Bone marrow deression or chronic failure and long term decubitus were also causes of infection. In addition, mycotic infection was 43.42% (33/76) in bacteriological tests with bad prognosis. Conclusions:Cross infection in the hospital occurs that patients enfeebled by radiotherapy, chemotherapy, chronic bone marrow failure and long term decubitus. Attention should be paid to the possibility of mycotic cross infection in hospitals, as the prognosis could be quite serious. As soon as the diagnosis is confirmed, early and full dose treatment by anti mycotic drugs should be given.
