The common symptoms were difficulty in urination 48%, hematuria 19%, back and bone pain 16%, urinary retention 14.4%,Most of them were in stage C and D and treatment of choice were TUR and orchidectomy. ABSTRACT

Renal transplantation in children has been performed for over 25 years in developed countries but has never been reported in Thai children. We report an 8 year-old girl with end-stage renal disease due to chronic glomerulonephritis who had been transplanted at Siriraj Hospital. She was treated with continuous peritoneal dialysis for 9 months and developed several episodes of bacterial peritonitis and hypertension. She was transplanted using her father’s kidney and her serum creatinine level was normal within 7 postoperative days. The patient developed severe hypertension which was controlled with 4 antihypertensive agents. Five weeks postoperation her new ureter leaked. Although surgery was performed with internal stent placed, the patient continued to have urinary leakage and ureteric reconstruction using bladder flap or her own ureter will be done later. The patient’s renal function was normal on follow up.

ABSTRACT

The demand of organs for transplantation in Thailand has been increasing enormously since the successful transplantation became well established. However there is the limited number of available cadaveric donors. One of the solutions for this problem is the maximal use of the organs from a single donor. The proper assessment and care of donor, good surgical techniques and well-organized coordination system could make significant contributions to successful multiorgan retrievals. We report the management of the first single cadaveric donor to bring five organs i.e., heart, lung, liver and both kidneys for the successful transplantations.

ABSTRACT

A retrospective study was carried out using the OPD cards of 25 cases (stage A, grade 2) with transitional cell carcinoma (superficial bladder cancer), to determine effects of Mitomycin C on preventing tumor recurrence. Of these patients, 13 had been managed by surgery (TUR/TUF) only (group 1). The remaining 12 cases (group 2) were given Mitomycin C (intravesically) administration at two weeks post surgery (4 cases/group 2 A) and after several tumor recurrence was found in eight cases (group 2 B). The study compared the mean recurrence rate per year of these three groups. The mean recurrence rate per year of group 1, group 2 A and group 2 B was 0.34, 0.68 and 1.22, respectively, and there was no statistical difference between them. The percentage of recurrence in group 1, group 2 A and group 2 B was 61.5, 50 and 75, respectively. In conclusion, Mitomycin C dose not significantly reduce the recurrence of tumors, but if used two weeks after surgery it dose reduce the percentage of recurrence.
