ABSTRACT

Lack of investment for magnetic resonance (MR) fusion systems is an obstacle to deliver targeted prostate biopsies within the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway. We developed a coordinate-based method to support cognitive targeted prostate biopsies and then performed an audit on cancer detection and the location of lesions. In each patient, the prostate is considered as two separate hemiprostates, and each hemiprostate is divided into 4 × 4 × 4 units. Each unit is therefore defined by a three-dimensional coordinate. We prospectively applied our coordinates approach to target 106 prostatic lesions in 93 men. Among 45 (of 106; 42.5%) lesions positive for cancer, 27 lesions (60.0%) harbored clinically significant disease. ABSTRACT

This study focuses on the Neuropeptide Y [NPY] nerves in the diabetic prostate gland and seminal vesicle; the investigation concerns the changes in the NPY innervation, and in the density of NPY-binding sites in the post-synaptic tissues are also examined. The NPY nerves were visualised using immunocytochemistry, and NPY-binding sites were examined using quantitative autoradiography. Streptozotocin-induced diabetes caused an increased density of NPY containing nerves combined with a reduction in the density of NPY-binding sites. This suggests that there may be an increase in NPY release associated with a down-regulation of NPY-receptors. In conclusion there is an increase in the density of staining for NPY in the axons and sympaqthetic varicosities in the diabetic seminal vesicle and prostate gland. Associated with these changes in the nerve terminals, it appears that the release of NPY in the seminal vesicle may be concomitantly increased as there is a statistically significant decrease in the number of NPY-binding sites in the tissues

ABSTRACT

The prevalence of premenstrual syndrome [PMS] was determined in 1600 women belonging to various socioeconomic groups in Karachi. Of the total, 33% had PMS, whose prevalence was high in lower socioeconomic group living in socially deprived areas. A direct association of PMS was noted with parity, being low in low parity group. Major complaints were pain in lower abdomen, cramps and backache with majority taking no treatment for their complaints
