ABSTRACT

We made a clinical observation of 17 cases of congenital Hypothyroidism at the Pediatric department of Yonsei University hospital in Seoul, Korea during the period from January, 1969 to August, 1979. The results were as followings : 1) Male to female sex was about 1 : 1.1, and 6 cases (35%) of congenital hypothyroid-sm were diagnosed under 1 year old. 2) In etiological classificattion, aplastic or hypoplastic glands was 7 cases (41.2%) and normal or enlarged gland, 6 cases (35.3%) and ectopic thyroid tissue, 4 cases (23.5%). 3) In all cases, height and bone age retarded below normal range. 4) All cases were improved slightly after receiving dessicated thyroid and sodium-1 thyroxin therapy. Three cases had regalned normal growth and development after 6 months of treatment.

ABSTRACT

A clinical study was made on 25 cases of brain tumor occurring under the age of 16 in the Department of Pediatrics and Neurosury at Severance Hospital, Yonsei University, from Jan. 1, 1971 to Dec. 31, 1975. The age, sex of the patients, clinical symptoms and signs, X-ray findings, location and pathological findings of tumor were analyzed and data were summerized as follows; 1. The age distribution of 25 tumors showed the highest incidence at the age of 5-6(20%) and 11-12(20%). 2. The sex ratio of male and female was approximately 1.1:1 for all the tumors. 3. At location, the supratentorial tumors was in 8(32%) and infratentorial in 17%(68%) 4. In the histological findings, medullobastoma wasthe commonest neoplasm being presented in 11(44%) and remainders shounld astrocytoma 6(24%) ependymoma 2(8%). 5. In clinical symptoms and signs at supratentorial tumo, headaohe occured in 75%, vomiting 62%, ataxia 50%. At inpratentorial tumo, vomiting occureP in 88%, each ataxia headache 75%. 6. Plain skull X-ray changes were nited in 18 of the 25 abailable cases(72%). 7. Result showed 1 yearsurvial 4 cases, survival 4 cases, 2 yearsurvival 6 cases, non-follow up 5 casees.

ABSTRACT

During last 20 years from 1959 to 1978, 75 cases of the congenital pyloric stenosis were admitted to department of pediatrics of Yonsei University College of Medicine, and evaluated clinically. The results obtained are asfollows: 1.Vomiting is usually developed during 2 to 4 weeks of life(38 cases, 50%) and the ratio of male to female was 6.5:1. 2. The incidence among siblings were 37 cases in 1st born, 20 cases in 2nds and 9 cases in 3rds. 3. The duration from onset to admission showed a eak incidence between one to two weeks(41 cases among 75 cases) 4. In the symptoms and physical findings; Non-bile stained vomiting was developed in all of the cases, abdominal masses palpated in 67 cases(90%), and visible peristaltic waves were observed in 25 cases(33%). 5. Metabolic alkalosis was developed in 25 cases (33%), serum Na concentration was ranged between 130~150mEq/l in 59 cases and serum K concentration between 3~5mEq/l in 65 cases. 6. 70 cases received surgical treatment. 69 cases were improved, and one case was expired due to aspiration pneumonia. 4 cases were improved with medical treatment including anticholinergics.
