ABSTRACT

Although data shows the effects of stress on the cardiovascular system, there is no information on their reversibility. The aim of this study is to determine the reversibility of stress effects on resposiveness of isolated rat aorta. Thirty-six male rats were divided into three groups, the control, physical stress, and psychological stress groups. During study animals were kept in 12h/12h light/dark cycles at 23 +/- 2 °C and had free access to food and water. Stress was induced by the Communication Box for three weeks. Physical stress applied with electrical current [1mA, 1hz, 10 sec/min] applied one hour twice daily. After one month recovery post stress responsiveness of isolated aorta to potassium chloride and phenylephrine were determined. The results of this study showed that one month recovery, following stress reverse, serum corticosterone and isolated aortic contractility in rats, so that no significant differences were observed between the control and stress groups; the decreased adrenal weight coused by physical stress also reversed to normal one month after stopping the stress. It can be concluded that effects of physical and psychological stress on isolated aortic tensions is not permanent, and can be reversed

ABSTRACT

It was showed that family relationships affect on adolescent academic achievement. Regarding to the parenting style importance on academic competence, this study was carried out to determine relationship between parenting style and academic competence in adolescents. This is a descriptive correlational study with multistage cluster sampling of 360 adolescents studying in Tabriz high schools. Questionnaires using in this study were parenting style inventory II and Academic Competence Scale. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and LSD. According to the finding the majority of adolescents [%39.7] reported authoritative parenting style and high academic competence [39.2%]. Relation between parenting style and academic competence [F=187.8, P=0.000] was significant. Regarding the fact that the majority of adolescents reported authoritative parenting style and relation between parenting style and academic competence was significant, so parents' education for adolescence's characteristic and parenting style outcomes lead to promoting adolescent academic competence

ABSTRACT

Background: experience of cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR] in real clinical setting is not easily possible for all medical students

Purpose: to assess medical student perceived self-sufficiency on three procedural skill on internship courses after they had taken a training course in clerkship period

Methods: forty three medical students who had attended a workshop on CPR, tracheal intubations and venopuncture answered the questionnaires on their perceived self-sufficiency in performing these procedures after serving a few months as interns

Results: the mean score for perceived self-sufficiency [PSS] was 75.84 [+/-18.63].Thre were a high correlation between the score given for the applicability of training in real life situation and the stress reduction scores on first time performing the procedure

Conclusion: the high degree of correlation between PSS scores and applicability scores, may warrant the consideration of new methods in procedural skills
