ABSTRACT

Enzyme linked immunosorbent assay [ELISA] was applied for the first time in Egypt using a local prepared schizont antigen for the detection of Theileria annulata among local breed cattle. The routine parasitological examination of Giemsa stained blood films was also used. The study revealed differences in the infection rates detected by ELISA [80.4%] and blood films examination [65.4%]. ELISA proved to be more accurate, practical, serodiagnostic and a suitable screening test for field detection of Theileria annulata infection, as it was possible to determine antibody levels in more serum samples daily
