ABSTRACT
A young man developed massive pulmonary embolism after two weeks of head trauma and brain surgery for temporal lobe contusion and evacuation of intracerebral hematoma. He was thrombolysed with tissue plasminogen activator as a life saving measure, as he was haemodynamically unstable for emergency pulmonary thromboembolectomy. He improved quickly after thrombolysis without any untoward bleeding. Later, he underwent insertion of an inferior vena cava filter to prevent recurrence

Malignant mesothelioma is a rare tumour, especially when not associated with exposure to asbestos. Its diagnosis is difficult because of the non-specific clinical presentation and differential diagnostic problems mainly from peritoneal carcinoma and peritoneal metastasis. This report of a 60-year old omani woman illustrates these problems and emphasizes the role of modern imaging techniques and histochemical, immunohistochemical and ultrastructural studies to confirm its diagnosis
