ABSTRACT

Background:Child-Pugh score(CPS)and albumin-bilirubin(ALBI)score have important predictive value for the assessment of survival of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC). Aims:To investigate the predictive values of CPS and ALBI score for radiation-induced liver disease(RILD)and long-term prognosis in patients with HCC receiving stereotactic ablative radiotherapy(SABR). Methods:A total of 152 HCC patients receiving SABR from June 2006 to June 2012 at Baoji Central Hospital were enrolled. CPS and ALBI score were determined,and the predictive values of CPS and ALBI score for RILD and prognosis were compared. Results:In 152 patients with HCC,CPS-A was noted in 119 patients, CPS-B in 33 patients;ALBI-1 was noted in 60 patients,ALBI-2 in 86 patients,ALBI-3 in 6 patients. The 5-year overall survival rate was significantly higher in CPS-A patients than in CPS-B patients(46.2% vs. 15.2%,P <0.001). Significant difference in 5-year overall survival rate was found among patients with ALBI-1,ALBI-2 and ALBI-3(P =0.002). CPS grade(HR=1.38,95% CI:1.18-1.94,P=0.008)and ALBI grade(HR=1.68,95% CI:1.32-2.03, P=0.003)were independent risk factors for 5-year survival of patients with HCC. RILD was found in 20 cases(13.8%) within 4 months after SABR. AUC of ALBI for prediction of RILD was significantly higher than that of CPS(0.784 vs. 0.611,P=0.028). Patients with CPS-A and ALBI< -2.76 were less likely to develop RILD after SABR(2.4%). Conclusions:ALBI can effectively predict the occurrence of RILD and long-term survival of HCC patients after SABR.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To investigate the effect of cyclopamine on metastatic ability of human esophageal cancer EC109 cells and explore the possible mechanism.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Transwell chamber assay and angiogenesis assay were used to examine the metastatic ability, invasiveness and angiogenesis of EC109 cells treated with cyclopamine for 48 h. The expression of Gli-1 mRNA was detected using RT-PCR, and Western blotting was used to examine the protein expressions of Gli-1, matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF).</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>Inhibition of the hedgehog signaling pathway by cyclopamine suppressed the migration, invasion, and angiogenesis of EC109 cells. Cyclopamine treatment significantly lowered the expression of Gli-1 mRNA (P<0.05) and the protein expressions of Gli-1, MMP-9 and VEGF (P<0.05).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Cyclopamine can significantly inhibit the metastatic capacity of EC109 cells possibly by down-regulating MMP-9 and VEGF expression as a result of Gli-1 inhibition.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the value of case-based learning(CBL) combined with lecture-based learning (LBL) in medical immunology teaching.Methods Totally 85 clinical medicine students of 2010 grade in medical school of Yangtze university were divided into two groups:control group(n=43) and experimental group(n=42).The students in control group were received LBL while those in experimental group were received CBL combined with LBL.Teaching effectiveness was evaluated by questionnaire survey and theoretical test.Results The questionnaire showed that the abilities of comprehension,expression,analysis,practice and cooperation were significantly better in experimental group than in the control group(P<0.05),the results of test showed that the total scores and the scores of choice and clinical case analysis were markedly higher in experimental group than in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusions The teaching model of CBL combined with LBL is helpful to develop students' comprehensive quality and creative ability and it is worth further promoting in medical immunology teaching.But there are some problems need further improvement.

ABSTRACT

To establish the PBL designed experiment teaching model and to evaluate its teaching effectiveness.we use the questionnaires and the experiment skill test and the experiment content related written examination and the theoretic examination to evaluate its teaching effectiveness. The PBL group is significantly higher in the comprehension and the synthesizing ability and so on than the control group (P<0.05). The PBL group has significantly higher mean scores in the experiment content related written examination than the control group (P< 0.01). The PBL group has significantly higher scores in the theoretic examination than the control group (P< 0.01). The PBL designed experiment teaching can better train students for the innovative thinking ability and the scientific research capabilities.

ABSTRACT

To train students' scientific research thought and innovation ability,we explored on the designed experiment teaching to improve the studnts’ manipulative ability,their analysis and synthesis ability as well as the problem-solving ability,and increased their interest in learning so that students could better mastere the basic skills and basic theory of immunology.
