ABSTRACT

A total of 12 Ossimi male lambs were divided into three equal groups. Ration was based on 2 kg berseem and 500 g berseem straw for each group per head/day supplied with concentrate mixture by different amounts: Concentrate mixture ad libitum, 3/4 the amount of concentrate mixture and 1/2 the amount of concentrate mixture in the groups 1, 2 and 3, respectively. Dressing percentage, weight of carcass cuts, lean fat and bone percentage in the whole carcass also lean meat: fat ratio in the whole carcass were studied. The study revealed that lambs of the first group were better than those of the other two groups regarding dressing percentage [56.36, 52.62 and 50.54%, respectively] and weight of carcass cuts [legs, lions, racks, shoulders, fore-shanks, breast and flanks]. Lambs of the third group recorded the highest meat and bone percentages and the lowest fat percentage. As for the ratio between lean meat to fat in the whole carcass, lambs of the third group recorded the widest ratio [2.14] followed by the lambs in the second group [1.69]
