ABSTRACT

The objective of this study was to evaluate and compare laser fluorescence [LF], using DIAGNO-dent tool and visual examination [VE] methods for diagnosis of early occlusal caries in permanent molars and premolars. Two hundred occlusal surfaces were randomly selected in permanent molars and premolars of 54 female patients [17-25 years old], visited Dental Hygiene Clinics of College of Dentistry, King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Clinical examination for dental caries using LF and VE methods was conducted by two examiners. The agreement between the two examiners was almost perfect [Kappa .87 and 1.0] using LF and VE for diagnosis of the occlusal caries. There was no significant difference in sensitivity and specificity value of the two methods. It is also concluded that the laser fluorescence can be used as an adjunct tool in the diagnosis of occlusal dental caries in permanent molars and premolars

ABSTRACT

To determine caries prevalence and oral hygiene status among female patients visiting a dental hygiene department clinic in Riyadh. Three hundred and twenty eight female patients [age ranging from 15 - 60 years] were examined in the dental hygiene clinics of the College of Applied Medical Sciences for dental caries and oral hygiene status. The WHO criteria was utilized for the diagnosis of dental caries with the addition of bitewing radiographs. Oral hygiene was determined by summing of average plaque scores and calculus scores and then dividing by six. All readings were confirmed by the two examiners. The sample was divided into three age groups; first group, aged 15 -25 years consisted of 186 [56.7%] females, second group 26 -45 years consisted of 90 [27.4%] females and the third group of 46 - 60 years-old had 52 [15.9%] females. A very high mean DMFT score of 11.59 [SD 4.25] was found in the study sample. There was a significant [p<0.05] difference in mean DMFT scores and its components between various age groups. No patient had good oral hygiene in any of the three age groups. There was no statistically significant difference [p>0.05] between the oral hygiene groups in terms of mean DMFT scores and all its components. The female patients visiting the dental hygienist clinics of the College of Applied Medical Sciences had very high caries experience, and poor oral hygiene status

ABSTRACT

An observational study was conducted from March to April 2007and data was collected from all nursing schools in the country as well as from other external sources to assess the needs of nursing faculty in Pakistan. There were a total of 14 nursing degree programs in Pakistan with 97 faculty members and an annual enrolment of 711 students. Over the next five years, the annual student enrollment is expected to rise to 1,200. To meet these needs, an additional 291 nursing faculty will be required, including 20 Professors/ Associate Professors with PhD and 250 Assistant Professors with MScN degrees. A five year program has been developed for the training of the nursing faculty at an estimated cost of 1512.25 million Pakistani rupees. In order to promote nursing higher education in the country, comprehensive efforts are needed to implement a comprehensive faculty development program
