ABSTRACT
From January, 1992 to December, 1994, 400 women presenting with infertility at the Rawalpindi General Hospital, were checked for tuberculosis as part of the investigation for infertility. None of them had any sign or symptom of tuberculosis. X-ray chest was also normal in all cases. Investigations were carried out on specimens of endometium shed on the first or the second day of menstruation, on premenstrual endometrial biopsies and on peritoneal fluid specimen aspirated at laparoscopy. Forty patients had positive cultures for M. tuberculosis-30 from menstrual blood, 6 from endometrial biopsy and 4 from peritoneal fluid. Five patients had more than one positive culture
