ABSTRACT

Parkinson’s disease is seen in adults in their late middle or old age. It has four cardinal signs - resting tremor, bradykinesia, akinesia, and postural instability. Patient’s gait is often slow, shuffling with a stooped posture and they tend to walk faster with shorter steps. The affected patients have uncontrolled movements of the body along with stiffness of muscles. Tremors in orofacial musculature caused by Parkinson’s disease can make dental treatments, a challenge. The psychological component like depression, cognitive problems, and apathy further jeopardise the successful fabrication and utilisation of complete denture. This case series presents completely edentulous patients with Parkinson’s disease successfully treated with complete dentures in a sympathetic and caring approach. Some modification of techniques and materials were adopted to suit the special situations.

ABSTRACT

Lasers were introduced into the field of clinical dentistry with the hope of overcoming some of the drawbacks posed by the conventional methods of dental procedures. Since its first experiment for dental application in the 1960s, the use of laser has increased rapidly in the last couple of decades. At present, wide varieties of procedures are carried out using lasers. The aim of this review is to describe the current and emerging applications for lasers in prosthetic dentistry. Used in conjunction with or as a replacement for traditional methods, it is observed that specific laser technologies are becoming an essential component of contemporary dental practice over a decade.

ABSTRACT

The prime focus of present day Dentistry is on preservation of teeth, thereby preserving alveolar ridge integrity and proprioceptive ability of periodontium. It also has positive psychologic effect on patient. Transitional dentures serve as one of the treatment option for patients presenting with very few remaining teeth, in compromised condition. A relatively newer type of transitional dentures is Cu-Sil dentures. A Cu-Sil denture is essentially a complete denture with holes lined with a rubber gasket, allowing the remaining natural teeth to protrude through. Cu-Sil dentures require special armamentarium and material for their processing. This case report presents an alternative technique to fabricate Cu-Sil like dentures in normal dental set-up as a lab procedure or chairside procedure using commonly available long term soft liners.
