ABSTRACT

A prescription issuing system is computerized in so many hospital. While the shareable and usability of an electronic prescription is increased by computerized materials, it can be serious for an information about a patient to be exposed in public. In this paper, the proposed system to issue an electronic prescription is aimed to keep using the existing paper-based prescription issuing system and extend the system using by IC card. It is developed for the secure method of an electronic prescription to transfer between hospital and pharmacy. For this, in this paper, it is defined for the standard minimal data set of a prescription information and developed the method to store the electronic prescription to IC card. It is set the access authority to access the electronic prescription stored in IC card by classifying the access authority group. Since the security and certificate authority center is established using Windows 2000, the electronic prescription stored in IC card can be secured and certificated by an encryption, decryption and digital signature. Lastly, the terminal and server system transferred an electronic prescription of a hospital and a pharmacy is implemented. ABSTRACT

Thesedays, the computer network has become the most popular means of communicating and sharing of information. With the rapid growing of Internet usage, various kinds of medical-related Internet sites are appearing. Due to the popularity of World Wide Web, many hospitals and medical centers establish their own homepage. In Korea, the number of home pages about medicine and medical institutes is increasing. Although many medical-related sites in Korea are providing Internet services on WWW, the quality is still far behind from foreign countries. For constructing the homepage for each department in Soonchunhyang University Hospital Homepage, this paper first investigates the University Hospital's Internet Homepage. After rewiewing the homepage, the new homepage of Soonchunhyang University Hospital has een implemented. From the experience in implementing the homepage for Soonchunhyang University Hospital, this paper suggests the method to build and manage a homepage for other medical related sites.

ABSTRACT

Medical Health IC card is a smart card built-in a microprocessor and a memory that stores individual health care information. The card is carried by the individual and presented to the medical doctor whin needed. Being connected with the existing networks, the card enables full automation of hospital management and formation of complete medical databases. Futhermore, the card links hospitals with nation-wide medical networks. The focus of this study is on what data should actually be stored in the card, and how the card to be used effectively in maternal-child and school health service. In this paper, existing literatures about prenatal care using medical health IC card were reviewed. and standardization efforts of medical IC card conducted by the ISO and Japanese Department of Health and Welfare were analyzed. This allowed us to pick the most suitable items based on the actual situation in Korea and how to systematically collect and record such data. As a result. we were able to present a standard that follows international standards and includes all additional information from maternal-child health care in major Korean hospitals, child health record published by the Korean pediatric society, and physical examinations done in elementary, middle and high schools in Korea. Also, The terminology of each item was standardized conforming to the Korean standard medical terminology.

ABSTRACT

The Medical health IC card should allow consistent, complete management of a patient's medial information across different medical centers. Even though many medical institutions are researching on a medical health IC card, as yet no standard is determined for the items that should be stored in the cards. Since there are no standards for the items, the use of the card is limited and confined within specific hospitals or regions. In this paper, we investigated various standardized items adopted in the medical health IC card and how they are actually stored in a card. We proposed a storage mechanism that categorizes each item into 3 hierarchical classes: the Global class, the Interest class, and the Detail class. In addition, the memory file system for the medical health IC card was also designed to conform to the international standards. The proposed memory file system can store the standard item within the limited memory capacity of IC cards. The memory file system also facilitates selective storage mechanism to save memory space by allowing only the selected items can be stored as needed. That is, except the information needed for the security purpose, all other items can be selectively stored as needed. Therefore, it is necessary that application programs accessing the medical health IC card must provide means of security.

ABSTRACT

The goal of the Korean Medical Health IC card is to fully incorporate with a hospital information system (HIS) in various medical institutes and also to cooperate with other EDI and HIS systems maintained by the Korean government and other medical institutes. Proposed system is built on Client/Server computing environment. The server is currently being developed to run under the Windows NT environment. In near future, the server will be expanded to UNIX environment which is widely used in the larger medical institutes. The proposed system facilitates functions to secure medical information using Crypto-API which is the basic security mechanism provided in the Windows NT system to construct a system environment together with the operating system. This paper focuses on the following three categories: 1) Review on up-to-dated status of IC card technology issued in international and domestic area and medical informatics, 2) Research on the development of Korean standardization of medical information stored in the medical health IC card and relations with existing/planned international standards, and 3) research on the current status of existing medical databases adopted in Korean medical institutes. The key issue of a medical health IC card is to incorporate IC card into a client system as a PC system-following the PC/SC guidelines that tightly coupled between the PC system and the IC card subsystem. The owner of the medical health IC card can bows his/her medical information using a client application, which is developed to access the medical information and the IC card terminal. The owner also can request other extra medical information on the medical institutes' database through the network information retrieval system. The Korean Medical Health IC card enhances the interface usability so that user can easily use a medical health IC card in a general network environment such as an electric commerce system. As a part of our long term plans, to cooperate with the existing EDI and HIS systems developed on domestic medical institutes and related government institutes, the investigation and analysis of domestic medical system is being under way. The developed system will also be put into field tests in major domestic hospitals and the Korean medical insurance management institute.

ABSTRACT

Linking with medical institutes and medical related centers. the individual patient's information should be studied systematically and synthetically. Since the medical information contains the fatal information for the individual patient, it should not to be released of operated by an unauthorized person. The individual medical information, distributed at various medical institutes, can be intergrated through a medical health IC card. This paper describes a mechanism to access and secure the information on a medical health IC card. Facilitating appropriate access rights for the information recorded on a medical health IC card. it should prohibit an authorized person from browsing patient's private information. From the previous studies on a medical health IC card, the items on a medical health IC card are categorized into eight different groups conforming to the international standard. Proposed system further refined the eight Global Classes into an Interest Class and Detail Class, and sets up a new access rights for each class. The memory file system of a medical health IC card also follows the existing international standard. Besides, this paper describes issues about how the operator plays a role in handling the access process for medical health information. The study also follows the international standard by standardizing the items stored in a medical health IC card. In the future, the security level and access limitations have to be more refined and localized to be fit in Korean environment.

ABSTRACT

Recent developments in computer and communication technology were studied in relation to medical information network systems, using computers and IC cards, to solve problems in community health. Trial use of health IC card systems for personal health data management are already in existence in some countries. The health IC card system provides good quality information to the doctors, the hospital, the patients, and the insurance organizations. Emergency medical information card systems that take advantage of advanced information-related technologies such as computers and communication systems, in order to improve their emergency medical care systems may have many advantages. Emergency medical information card can provide a way to protect people during medical emergencies by providing physicians with their vital medical information during the critical seconds of emergency care if being unable to provide your vital medical information. Before introducing these systems, recognition that an important problems such as standardization of the data and code for the medical information systems, defining the access and usage rights by user profiles and the types of data for the security and data protection must be considered. We studied the emergency medical information card systems to clarify their purpose, analyse their present status, standardize the data and codes and define the access and usage rights and present the ideal system, in view of community health care requirements. Here the results of the research are examined, and there is a discussion of what is needed to use the emergency medical card system in the future.

ABSTRACT

Using IC cards with powerful information processing capabilities, high level of security, and multi media capabilities to create health IC cards has the following merits: comprehensive management of individual medical information, highly secure access to information that may be stored in separate location and/or institutes, increasing the compatability of difference used by various institutes. In this research ,we have categorized the information stored in the health IC card into the following main categories: basic personal information, emergency medical information, medical informatics, nursing information, welfare information. This was based on international ISO standards and specifics of Japan and south eastern Asia. These main categories are further divided into sub-categories and care was taken to ensure that the format of each sub-category is compatible with international standards while being suitable for Koran conditions of actual use. So, these categories conform to international standards and we will continue our efforts update the international standard to include additional categories needed in Korea and update the Korea standard to conform more closely with the international standards.
