ABSTRACT

Background and Aim: Hypothyroidism is one of the most common endocrine complications in the patients with Beta thalassemia major. A simple review of the studies shows different prevalence rates of hypothyroidism in the patients with Beta thalassemia major in Iran. This meta-analysis study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of hypothyroidism in the patients with Beta thalassemia major in Iran


Material and Methods: Using standard key words, we obtained the data from Magiran, Iran medex, IranDoc, SID, Medlib databases and also international databases including Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, ScienceDirect and Google Scholar without any time limit up to December 2015. Statistical analyses were performed using random effects model by Stata Ver.11.1


Results: We evaluated 4851 patients who had participated in 27 eligible studies [23 articles and 4 thesis]. Prevalence of hypothyroidism in the patients with thalassemia major in Iran was estimated as 5.7 % [95% CI:, 4.7-6.8]. The prevalence of the overt and subclinical hypothyroidism in the patients were 3.1 % [95% CI:, 4.1-4.8] and 6.7 % [95% CI:, 3.3- 10], respectively. The highest prevalence of hypothyroidism belonged to the north of Iran [15%]


Conclusion: We found similar prevalence rates of hypothyroidism in Iran and other reports provided by scientific resources [5-7%]. Therefore, we recommend annual performance of thyroid function tests for these patients

ABSTRACT

Introduction and Aims: fruits and vegetables as parts of healthy food system are recommended. Individuals who have high consumption of fruits and vegetables, less likely to involve overweight and danger of encountering to cordial disease and special type of cancer is reduced. Consumption of fruit and vegetable lead to safe from type 2 diabetes ,brain strike, long term pulmonary diseases, eye cataract, blood pressure and intestine disease


Materials and Methods: this cross-sectional analytic study implemented on 200 citizen in Ilam by random sampling. Data gathering tools are questionnaire include constructions of developed planned behavior theory


Results: attitudes, habits, and intention have impact directly on consumption of fruit and vegetables. However attitude and habits affected consumption of fruit and vegetables thereby intention. Based on general effect of variables after habits, attitude was the second factor that predicts the consumption. Mental norms have no significant direct effect on consumption of fruit and vegetables


Conclusion: hygienic theories such as planned behavior theory can help to predicting and planning healthy behaviors. Planned behavior theory can be used for planning and intervening in order to preventing of disease

ABSTRACT

New and effective health care needs a cooperation between doctor and patient. patients' satisfaction is necessany for a good Doctor-patient relationship, this study evaluate factors affecting patients content. A descriptive- analytical survey was performed from November to December 2010. The study sample consisted of 100 patients hospitalized in the emergency wards of Imam Khomeini and Mustafa Hospitals in Ilam- Iran. Subjects were selected by simple random sampling method. Data were collected by questionnaire and it's reliability was checked using Cronbach alpha coefficient. Factorial analysis technique was used to find the most important factors affecting patients' satisfaction. Normal distribution for factor scores was assessed using the Kolmogorov-Smimov test. Data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney test and Spearman correlation coefficient. P< 0.05 was considered significant. Explanatory factor analysis showed that the patient's satisfaction is affected by six factors including: satisfaction of physician, nursing staff, presence of students, method of reception and discharge, deciding for cure and knowing the position of therapist. According to the results of factorial analysis, role and patient's satisfaction of physician was the most important issue. There was an statistically significant relationship between occurrence time with patients' satisfaction [r=0.23, P=0.027], number of visit and satisfaction [r=0.27, P=0.00], and occurrence time with number of visit [r=0.36, P=0.000], and time of visits and satisfaction of physician [X2=1013, P=0.016]. since there is a direct relationship between number and time of physician visit with patient's satisfaction, therefore it recommended to aware physician about this issue

ABSTRACT

Food habits, controlling stress, motor activity and smoking are important factors of lifestyle amongst young people and specially students. The present study aimed to determine the lifestyle situation and its correlation with some factors amongst a representative group of medical students in Ilam University of medical sciences. In a cross-sectional study using randomized allocation sampling, 400 medical students in Ilam University of Medical Sciences were recruited. The "HPLP II" questionnaire which included parameters of controlling stress, motor activity, foods and safety habits was used. Data were analyzed using Chi-square and Kendal correlation tests using SPSS software. Mean participant's age +/- standard deviation was 20.94 +/- 1.9 years and 59.2% were female. In general, poor lifestyle, controlling stress, motor activity, dietary and safety habits were estimated to be 6, 10, 36, 20.8 and 2 percent, respectively. There were significant correlation between students' lifestyle and fathers' education level but not with parents' job, mothers' education level, students' major, age, gender and nativity. Among factors constituting life style, stress control had the strongest correlation with students' lifestyle [r = 0.61, p<0/01]. Improving students' lifestyle with changes in food habits and motor activity as well as decreasing stress levels is recommended
