ABSTRACT

Cytologic evaluation in the form of multiple follow-up studies was carried out in [210] women using Copper IUCD for a period ranging from 18-72 months. Age of those women ranged from 21-42 years. Pre-insertion smears were available for nearly half of them. The main encountered cytologic abnormalities included squamous metaplasia [70.5%] endocervial cell proliferation and repair [59%], abnormal endometrial cell shedding [24%] and dysplais: [9.5%]. While the former two lesions showed a significant association with loop insertion, the rate of dysplasia did not reveal any significant change during the six-month period of follow up. The results of the present work, therefore, support the observation noted by other major studies that there is no significant enhancement of cervical cytologic neoplasia from up to six years of using IUCD

ABSTRACT

During a period of seven years, nipple discharge from 310 patients were examine cytologically to detect cancer of the breast. Cytological of malignancy were positive in eight cases, criterea spicious in 11 and negative in the rest. Six of positive cases were detected in the bloody nipple discharge. These results were confimred histopathologically. Out of 11 suspicious cases two were positive, the remainig nine were negative histopathologically

ABSTRACT

The cytological and histopathological findings of [107] patients, referred to the teaching laboratories of Saddam Medical City Hosp., during a two years period [1990-1991], were reviewed. Changes of cervical intra-epithelial neoplasia were diagnosed in 40 patients [37%] cytologically. The sensitivity of cytological diagnosis of CIN changes was [86%], while the specificity was [97%]. The comparable figures for cytodiagnosis of cervical carcinoma were [91%] and [100%], respectively

ABSTRACT

Over seven years period [June 1983 to June 1991] 1200 cervical [Pap] smears were examined in the cytology laboratory in Medical City in Baghdad, and 84 smears showed cellular changes suggestive of having Chlamydical infection. These smears were destained, and restained with cytochemical periodic acid Schiff [PAS] technique for identification of Chlamydical infection. Of 56 smears containing cellular changes considered to be consistent with Chlamydical infection, 50 were positive using PAS technique. Of 28 smears showing non-specific changes possibly due 10 Chlamydical infection, 5 were positive with PAS. The results show that PAS technique is a rapid and reliable method and can be used in addition to Papanicolaou Stain
