ABSTRACT
A total of 761 cases of gastroduodenal haemorrhages were studied to obtain information on incidence, causes, diagnosis and management of the condition. Peptic ulcer was found to be the cause of bleeding in 61.5 percent of the group studied. The male-female ratio was 112: 43. Age-wise, incidence was found to be highest in the 3I-40 age group. Seasonal prevalence was noticed, the peak being the beginning of the cold season and the beginning of the monsoon. Sex-wise mortality rate was 7.5 percent for males and 5 percent for females.
