ABSTRACT

The aim of present study was to establish the baseline data for pregnancy induced hypertension (PIH). From November 2000 through October 2001, a total of 212 women diagnosed as PIH and delivered at Samsung Cheil Hospital were included in this study. We reviewed the obstetric and neonatal records, then analyzed the incidence, maternal complications, and neonatal outcomes according to the severity of PIH. The incidence of PIH was 2.6% (mild and severe form was 59% and 41%, respectively). In maternal age, parity, number of fetus (singletone or multiple pregnancy), and gestational diabetus, there was no significant different incidence between mild and severe form of PIH. But, the women with severe PIH delivered more frequently at 21~28 and 33~36 gestational weeks than in mild form (p<0.05). Among fetuses with intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR), a group with birth weight below the population 5 percentile was more frequent in severe than in mild form of PIH (p0.05). As to maternal, fetal and neonatal complications of PIH, maternal anemia, preterm labor, and IUGR were more frequently founded in severe form of PIH than in mild. We could not found significant different frequency in other complication (disseminated intravascular coagulation, abruptio placenta, pulmonary edema, low apgar score, meconium stained, respiratory distress syndrome, and intracranial hemorrhage) between mild and severe form of PIH.

ABSTRACT

A clinical observation was made on 25 patients of cryptorchism who had been admitted to the Department of Urology, National Seoul Hospital during the 3 years period from January, 1979 to December, 1981. The following results were obtained: 1. The most frequent age group was seen at over 15 and average age was 11.2 years which means too late for requiring adequate treatment. 2. Orchiopexy was performed on 28 testis (84.9%), 4 cases were performed the orchiectomy because of atrophy or impossible placement to scrotum and histopathology revealed atrophic change, in all removed testes. 3 cases among them were proved to oligo-azoospermia by semen analysis. 3. The bilateral cryptorchisms were observed in 8 cases (32%)and inguinal type in 20 (60.6%), prepubic type in 6 (18.2%), intra-abdominal type in 4 (12.1%)and superficial inguinal type in 2 (6.1%) (12 cases in right and 5 cases in left). 4. Associated anomalies and complications were found in 11 cases (44%)and the most common anomalies were hernia, which was found in 4 cases (15.2%).

ABSTRACT

A clinical observation was performed on 154 cases of chronic prostatitis in the Department of Urology, National Seoul Hospital from January 1981 to March 1982. The results are as follows: 1. 121 cases or 78.4 percent of the cases were observed among the ages between 20 to 40 years are more than one half of these cases were seen between the ages of 26 to 35 years. 2. Previous diseases were Non-gonococcal urethritis on 82 cases (53.2%), Gonococcal urethritis on 45 cases(29.2%) and previous prostatitis on 15 cases (9.7%). 12 cases (7.8%) were free of previous diseases. 3. Most frequently observed symptoms consisted of those of mild chronic urethritis such as morning drop, urethral discomfort, perineal discomfort and frequency. 4. In microscopic findings of wet smear of the prostatic secretion, 125 cases (81.2%) showed W.B.C. more than10/H.P,F. 29 cases (18.8%) were within normal limit. 5. In 125 cases in which prostatic gram stain was done, microorganisms were gram (+) cocci on 26 cases (20.8%),gram (-) bacilli on 12 cases (9.6%) and gram (+) bacilli on 10 cases (8.0%). No microorganism were on 77 cases (61.6%).

ABSTRACT

Byars hypospadias repair is known to be simple, sound and also giving the lowest incidence of fistula formation. The authors applied this technique to 25 patients with hypospadias in this department during 5 years period from January, 1976 to December, 1980. Fourteen patients presented with penoscrotal type, 5 penile type, 3 coronal type, and 3 scrotal type. Of these patients, 9 had chordectomy only, 11 chordectomy and secondary urethroplasty, and 5 with previous chordectomy attempted elsewhere urethroplasty only. Chordectomy were performed on 20 occasions and urethroplasty on 16 occasions. NO significant morbidity was seen related to this technique, except one patient with ureterocutaneous fistula which was treated subsequently by fistula repair.

ABSTRACT

Renal cell carcinoma in children has been considered a rare clinical entity but perhaps not as rare as once thought. This neoplasm should be considered in the differential diagnosis of hematuria and/or abdominal masses in children. Herein two cases of histologically proven childhood renal cell carcinoma are presented.

ABSTRACT

An in situ hypothermia technique allows ample exposure for a precise and bloodless dissection as well as ample protection against ischemia and blood loss in the surgical management of renal parenchyma. The saline slush method is simple and requires material that is readily available in standard operating rooms. Renal parenchymal surgery using in situ hypothermia was performed on 23 patients, 18 with renal calculi and 5 with renal injury, during 4 years period from June, 1976 to Mar, 1980. Partial nephrectomy was done in 12 patients, extended pyelolithotomy with nephrotomy in 5, nephrolithotomy in 3 and bivalve nephrolithotomy in 3. There was no morbidity related particularly to this hypothermia technique, however, in 4 out of 18 renal calculous patients remnant calculi were detected on postoperative study.

ABSTRACT

Clinical and bacteriological studies were made on 37 cases of infantile and childhood shigellosis treated at pediatric department of St. Mary's hospital in Dae Jon from Jan. 1978 to Dec. 1978. The following results were obtained. 1. In sex distribution 21 were male and rest of them were female, and the M/F ratio was 1.8:1.0. 2. The peak age incidence showed the children of 1 to 6 years old. 3. The most frequent symptom was fever(76%) and abdominal pain was next. 4. S. flexneri was most frequentkly isolated (62.2%) and the next was S. sonnei(35.1%). 5. The result of sensitivity test in this study revealed that tobramycin was most commonly effective (92%) and cephaloridin was next. Ampicillin was less sensitive (22%) than the previous reports.
