ABSTRACT

The following result were obtained through the clinical review of 78 cases with severe tuberculosis under the age of 5 years admitted at Department of Pediatrics, busan National University Hospital during the period of january, 1974 through December, 1980. 1) Incidence of severe tuberculosis in infancy and early chilhood is noticed as 49.3% in tuberculous menigitis, 16.0% in miliary tuberculosis and 34.9% in both. 2) There was no significant annual difference and the higher incidence by age noticed as 48.7% in patients under age of 2 Years. Seasonal distribution showed slightly increased incidence in spring and early summer. 3) Family history of tuberculosis was found in 50.0% of cases and most sources of infection were their parents. 4) In tuberculin skin test, 36.8% of cases were noticed as positive reaction. BCG Vaccination was not done in 53.8% of cases. 5) Treatment was done in two divided group : one group with INH. SM. And PAS. And another group with INH. SM. And RMP. Effectiveness of treatment was better in the group treated with INH.SM. and RMP. Than the group treated with INH.SM. and PAS. Liver function abnormalities were noticed in the group treated with INH.SM. and RMP. After 2-3 weeks but most casease were recovered by redused doses.

ABSTRACT

The author investigated the changes of serum protein, protein fraction and immunoglobulin in 6 infants who had been immunized with D.T. vaccine at 3, 4 and 5 months of age and in 6 infants who had not been immunized, as control group. The results obtained were summerized as follows. 1) There were no differences in the changes of total sserum protein and protein fraction between two groups. 2) Although, in the level of immunoglobulin, there were no differences in the levels of IgG and IgM between two groups, IgA was increased slightly in immunized group than in nonimmunized group.
