Calidad sanitaria del río Yumurí para uso recreativo y pesquero, desde septiembre 1998 al 2009 / Sanitary quality of the Yumuri River for fishing and recreational usage, from September 1990 to 2009

El río Yumurí es uno de los tres ríos más importantes de la ciudad de Matanzas. De menos longitud y caudal que los otros dos, el río separa los barrios de Versalles y Matanzas, sin embargo, la belleza natural del paisaje se ve empañada por las condiciones higiénico-ambientales de sus márgenes y el vertimiento de residuales, a lo largo de su cauce, desde su nacimiento a la desembocadura. Tiene múltiples fuentes contaminantes, debido a la acción del hombre, y los asentamientos humanos; por lo que la investigación objeto de este trabajo es de tipo descriptiva, enmarcada en un período de tiempo comprendido entre septiembre de 1998 y diciembre de 2009. Se hizo un estudio de los parámetros físico-químicos y bacteriológicos que puedan estar afectados para la utilización de sus aguas para uso recreativo y pesquero en 4 sitios de muestreo a lo largo de su cauce. Se encontró que los resultados obtenidos del número más probable de coliformes totales y el número más probable de coliformes fecales invalidan al río a todo lo largo de su corriente para ser utilizado con fines recreativos como contacto directo e indirecto. Respecto a la utilización para uso pesquero, los valores más negativos físico-químicos se reportaron el 25 por ciento en el puente Watkins y el 19 por ciento en el puente peatonal. Los valores medios de nitrógeno amoniacal también presentaron una calidad dudosa para la pesca en estos dos sitios de muestreo.

The Yumuri river is one of the three most important rivers of Matanzas. Shorter and with less flow than the other two, the river divides the quarters of Versalles and Matanzas , but the natural beauty of the scenery is blurred by the hygienic-environmental status of its sides and the residues dumping alongside it, from its source to its mouth. It has many polluting sources, due to the people´s action, and the human settlements; so the research done is a descriptive one, during the period from September 1998 to December 2009. We studied the physic-chemical parameters that may have a negative effect on the recreational and fishing usage of its waters in four sampling places alongside the river bed. The obtained results showed that the most probable number of total coliforms and the most probable number of fecal coliforms invalidate the usage of the river all along its course with a recreational objective, for direct or indirect contact. Respecting the fishing usage, the most negative physic-chemical values were reported at the Watkins Bridge, 25 per cent, and at the pedestrian bridge, 19 per cent. The media values of the ammoniacal nitrogen also had a doubtful quality for fishing in these two sampling places.

Calidad del hibitane como desinfectante químico en la prevención y control de la contaminación microbiana / Quality of the hibitane as a chemical disinfectant in the prevention and control of the microbial contamination

El empleo de disoluciones químicas desinfectantes en la prevención de las infecciones intrahospitalarias representa una problemática compleja, por diversas causas, estas no cumplen los requisitos de calidad físico-químicos establecidos para su manejo efectivo, lo que origina contaminación microbiológica por gérmenes perjudiciales a la salud y al medio ambiente, el objetivo de este trabajo es hacer un estudio descriptivo sobre el control de la calidad del hibitane como principal solución desinfectante utilizada en el Hospital Clínico-Quirúrgico Universitario Comandante Faustino Pérez, en el período que abarca desde enero de 1997 hasta diciembre de 2006. En esta etapa se chequeó la calidad de esta disolución, según la normativa de la vigilancia higiénico-epidemiológica, y se pudo comprobar que la misma no cumple los parámetros establecidos para tales efectos, con vista a minimizar los impactos negativos que ejerce la contaminación microbiológica sobre la salud humana y el medio ambiente

The usage of chemical disinfectant dissolutions in the prevention of the in-hospital infections is a complex problem because of different causes; they do not fulfil the established physical-chemical requirements of quality for its effective handling, what originates microbiologic contamination for germs that are harmful to the health and the environment: The objective of this work was making a descriptive study on the quality control of the hibitane like a main disinfectant solution used in the University Clinic-surgical Hospital Comandante Faustino Pérez, in the period from January 1997 to December 2006. In this period we checked the quality of this dissolution, according to the normative of the hygiene-epidemiologic surveillance, and we stated that it does not fulfil the established parameters, with the objective of minimizing the negative impacts exerted by the microbiologic contamination on the human health and the environment

Estudio de la calidad sanitaria de las aguas del Delfinario de Varadero para uso recreativo / Study of the sanitary qualities of water at Varadero's Dolphinarium

El Delfinario de Varadero es una de las instalaciones turísticas de nuestra provincia donde acuden grandes y chicos en busca de un sano esparcimiento; además, es muy frecuentado por los turistas extranjeros, por lo que reviste una gran importancia económica y social. En el presente trabajo se realizó una evaluación sanitaria de sus aguas, contemplado los análisis físico-químicos y bacteriológicos, en el período comprendido del año 2007 a junio de 2009, en las cinco áreas de uso recreativo, así como de los factores que pueden incidir negativamente sobre el buen desempeño de la instalación. La media geométrica de los valores hallados de NMP coli total y NMP coli fecal se encuentra en norma. Se reportan afectaciones puntuales en el parámetro físico-químico oxígeno, disuelto en las cinco áreas muestreadas en el 25,53 por ciento del total analizado, los valores medios de este parámetro al igual que el resto de los otros parámetros se encuentran en norma.

Varadero's dolphinarium is one of our province tourist centers where people go looking for recreation; besides that, it is frequently visited by foreign tourists, having a great economic and social importance. In the present work we made a sanitary evaluation of its waters, including physic-chemical and bacteriologic analyses, in the period from 2007 to June 2009, in all the five areas of recreational usage, and also the facts that may influence negatively on the good work of the center. The geometrical media of the found NMP coli total y NMP coli faecal values are normal. There were reported punctual troubles in the physical-chemical parameter Oxygen, dissolved in the five sampled areas in 25,53 per cent of the total analyzed; media values of this parameter is normal, as the rest of the parameters.
