ABSTRACT

Objective To achieve primary intervention from early on the analysis concerning correlations between BI-RADS classification and the factors that might influence it was conducted. Methods In this paper, the women involved in the 7204 cases of physical examinations in our hospital(over the past 5 years)were chosen as the subjects investigated. The correlations between their breast ultrasounography results and the factors such as age,BMI,triglycerides, total cholesterol, glucose, and uterine status were analyzed. The breast report used the Breast imaging reporting and data system(also known as BI-RADS)of the American Society of Radiology to inter-pret the results. Chi-square test and logistic multivariate analysis of data were analyzed by SPSS 13 statistical soft-ware. Results The age, triglyceride, total cholesterol,HDL and glucose were not the factors influencing BI-RADS classification(P>0.05);BMI(P=0.004)and uterine status(P=0.000)turned out to be the independent factors. Low body weight[odds ratio(OR)= 0.696,95%Confidence interval(CI)= 0.502 ~ 0.966],overweight (OR=0.217,95%CI=0.142~0.333),and obese(OR=0.123,95%CI=0.066~0.231)were negatively correlat-ed with it. Hysterectomy(OR = 19.189,95%CI = 14.055 ~ 26.198),(OR = 4.384,95%CI = 3.499 ~ 5.492), uterine fibroids ,menopausal uterus were found to be the risk factors(OR = 3.283 ,95%CI = 2.374 ~ 4.541). Conclusion For the premenopausal women, being overweight or underweight can help reduce the risk of getting breast diseases. However, those suffering absence of uterus,or uterine fibroids,or in their menopausal period, are supposed to be among the high-risk group of breast cancer for regular screening.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the effects of the expressions of thymidine kinase 1 (TK1) and Ki67 alone or their combination on the recurrence and metastasis of breast cancer. Methods Sixty-five samples were selected from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University from March 2005 to June 2007,which were resected by surgical operation and confirmed as breast carcinoma by pathology. They were individed into two groups including 37 cases with recurrence or metastasis in 5 years (group A),28 cases without recurrence or metastasis in 5 years (group B).The expressions of TK1 and Ki67 in the two groups were detected by immunohistochemical staining assay.Then,Kaplan-Meier assay was used to describe survival curve. Results The positive expression rate of TK1 in group A was 91.8%,which was dramatically higher than that in group B 67.8% (x2 =6.116,P =0.013).The positive expression rates of Ki67 in group A and B were 78.4% and 42.9% (x2 =8.635,P =0.003).The positive expression rates of TK1 combined with Ki67 in group A and B were 67.6% and 39.3% (x2 =5.159,P =0.023).Moreover,disease free survival of patients with positive expression of TK1 combined with Ki67 decreased significantly, compared with patients with positive expression of TK1 or Ki67 alone (x2 =6.137,P =0.046).Conclusion Positive expression of TK1 combined with Ki67 is the high risk factor of the reccurence or metastasis of breast carcinoma, and indicates poorer prognosis compared with positive expression alone.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the feasibility and security of omentum minus cavity xenotransloantation of alginic-polylysine-alginic(APA) microencapsulated neonatal swine islet cells by laparoscopic procedure. Methods 5 patients with IDDM received the xenotransloantation of APA microencapsulated neonatal pig islets in omentum minus cavity by laparoscopic procedure. The patients' general conditions, the change in fast blood glucose level, serum C-peptide and the dose of insulin used were observed before and after the xenotransplantation. Results No complications occurred during operation and after operation. The levels of serum C-peptide increased by 3 to 23 times respectively and the post-operative dose of insulin needed decreased obviously.Insulin independency was achieved in one recipient for up to 31 months. Conclusions Omentum minus cavity xenotransplantation of APA microencapsulated neonatal pig islets for the treatment of IDDM patients by laparoscopic technique is safe and practicable.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect and result of xenotransplantation with alginic polylysine alginic(APA) microencapsulated neonatal swine islets for the treatment of IDDM patients.[WT5”HZ] Method [WT5”BZ] The neonatal pig islets were microencapsulated with APA technique and cultured in vitro. The secretion of insulin, glucose stimulated insulin release test and histological examination between the microencapsulated and unmicroencapsulated neonatal pig islets were compared. 3 patients with IDDM received a xenotransplantation of microencapsulated neonatal pig islets by laparoscopic procedure. The change in blood glucose level, C peptide and the dose of insulin used were observed before and after the xenotransplantation. [WT5”HZ]Results [WT5”BZ] No significant difference was found between microencapsulated and unmicroencapsulated neonatal pig islets in vitro in terms of biological activity of the islets. The levels of serum C peptide in two of the 3 recipients increased by 11 and 23 times respectively, the postoperative dose of insulin needed decreased by 63% in one, insulin independency was achieved in the other recipient. In these two cases, the microencapsulated islets have functioned effectively for up to 80 ds.[WT5”HZ] Conclusion [WT5”BZ] APA microencapsulated neonatal pig islets have good biological activity and survived while transplanted into IDDM recipients. Omentum minus cavity xenotransplantation of microencapsulated neonatal pig islets by laparoscopic technique is safe, capable of repeated transplantation.
