ABSTRACT

Objective:To explore any effect of supplementing psychological intervention with repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in the rehabilitation of depressed persons with Parkinson′s disease (dPD).Methods:A total of 120 dPD patients were randomly divided into a psychological intervention group, an rTMS treatment group and an observation group, each of 40. In addition to conventional anti-Parkinson′s treatment and anti-depressant treatment, the psychological intervention group received such treatment and the rTMS group received 10Hz rTMS applied over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex for 8 weeks. The observation group received both interventions. Before and after the treatment, depression, neurological functioning and life quality were evaluated in all of the subjects using the 24-item Hamilton Depression Scale, the Movement Disorder Society′s unified Parkinson′s disease rating scale and the SF-36 questionnaire. Results:After the intervention, significant improvement was observed in all of the quantitative evaluations as well as in the remission rate (40%) and the reaction rate (90%). On average, the observation group′s results were significantly better than those of the other two groups. Conclusion:Psychological intervention and rTMS a have synergistic effect in treating dPD patients and their combination is worthy of clinical promotion and application, as it can relieve their depression and improve their neurological functioning and life quality.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate any effect of supplementing psychological intervention with repeated transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) in treating depression, improving neurological functioning and improving the life quality of depressed stroke survivors. Methods:A total of 228 patients with post-stroke depression (PSD) were randomly divided into a psychological intervention group, an rTMS treatment group and a combined treatment group, each of 76. In addition to routine stroke treatment and anti-depressant drug treatment, the psychological intervention group received psychological counseling and the rTMS group was given rTMS at 10Hz for 8 weeks. The combined group received both. Before and after the intervention, depression was quantified using the 24-item Hamilton Depression Scale. The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale was used to quantify neurological functioning. And cognitive functioning was assessed with the Cognitive Function Assessment Scale. Life quality was assessed using the Stroke-specific Quality of Life Scale. Results:After the 8 weeks, significant improvement was observed in the average scores of all three groups on all of the measurements. The combined group had improved significantly more than the other two groups in terms of all of the dimensions studied. The combined group′s clinical remission rate (38.16%) and response rate (85.53%) were significantly higher than those of the other two groups. Conclusions:Repetitive transcranial stimulation can significantly improve the effectiveness of psychological counseling in treating PSD after a stroke. Using them jointly is worthy of application in the clinical practice.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To analyze the clinical characteristics of children with 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) infection in Putian City, and to provide a reference for the diagnosis and treatment of children with 2019-nCoV infection. Methods:Clinical characteristics, laboratory examination, pulmonary compated tomography findings, treatment, and clinical outcomes of 78 children with 2019-nCoV infection who were admitted to Putian University Affiliated Hospital Medical Group Putian City Children′s Hospital from September 10 to October 20, 2021 were retrospectively collected and analyzed. Results:Of the 78 children included in the analysis, two cases (2.6%) were asymptomatic infection, 36 cases (46.2%) were mild and 40 cases (51.3%) were ordinary. Five children were vaccinated against 2019-nCoV. The main symptoms were fever (24 cases), cough (13 cases), and fatigue (nine cases). A total of 34 cases (43.6%) had neutropenia, 29 cases (37.2%) had lymphopenia, 36 cases (46.2%) had D-dimer increase, 38 cases (48.7%) had hypokalemia, 27 cases (34.6%) had hypoglycemia and 11 cases (14.1%) had elevated creatine kinase isoenzyme. The neutropenia mostly occurred two to four days after admission. Fifty-six cases (71.8%) showed pulmonary computed tomography abnormalities. The cycle threshold of virus open reading frame ( ORF)1 ab was 20.90±7.15 and the cycle threshold of N gene was 20.29±7.78 in the first nucleic acid detection of 78 children after admission. The time of nucleic acid negative conversion of the 78 children was (20.73±6.94) days. IgM antibody titer in five vaccinated children was 0.36 (0.34, 4.89) and IgG antibody was 10.42 (0.50, 19.42). IgM antibody titer was 1.82 (1.66, 8.12) and IgG antibody was 76.63 (16.92, 79.84) in cases with disease duration ≥10 days. Nine children (11.5%) had resurgence of virus and were sent to the isolation site. All the other children were cured and discharged from hospital. Conclusions:Children with 2019-nCoV infection have mild clinical symptoms, and some children have lymphopenia, neutropenia, and D-dimer elevation during the course of the disease. The overall prognosis is good. The children vaccinated against 2019-nCoV have higher antibody levels.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effectiveness of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) combined with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) in treating cerebral infarction. Methods Totally 120 patients with cerebral infarction were randomly divided into a control group,a treatment group A and a treatment group B,40 cases in each group. The control group was given conventional treatment, the treatment group A was treated by HBO on the basis of conventional therapy, and the treatment group B was treated by HBO combined with TMS,10 d for a period of treatment. Before and after 2 courses of treatment, all patients' neurological defect was evaluated using National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS).Their central motor conduction time (CMCT) and the expression of brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) were also assessed. Results After treatment, the average NIHSS score and effective rate of the treatment group B was (7.35 ± 1.98) and 92.5% respectively, significantly better than the other two groups. Moreover, the average BDNF content [(4.96 ± 1.20) ng/ml] and NGF content [(152.36 ± 18.01)pg/ml] of the treatment group B after treatment were significantly better than before treatment, and those of the other two groups after treatment. Conclusion TMS combined with HBO is effective in treating cerebral infarction. This may relate to its strengthening the expression of neurotropic factors.
