ABSTRACT

Tuberculosis may involve any part of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. However gastric involvement is extremely rare. Gastric tuberculosis may simulate peptic ulcer or gastric malignancy, but upper GI bleeding is an extremely uncommon manifestation. We report a case of disseminated tuberculosis in a patient with AIDS, with repeated episodes of melena and hematemesis. A biopsy revealed antral mycobacteriosis with the presence of acidfast bacilli in the ulcerated area (AU)

ABSTRACT

Bladder malacoplakia is a rare granulomatous disease. Although it is a benign disease, it has a recurrent and destructive behavior. Its physiopathogenesis and treatment remain unclear. Grossly, malacoplakia consists of soft yellow colored plaques, and histologicaly it is distinguished by the pathognomonical Michaelis-Gutmann bodies. The authors review the literature and report a case of a 38-year-old patient, with recurrent urinary tract infection, bilateral ureterohydronephrosis and the characteristical vesical trigone plaques. Bilateral percutaneous nephrostomy was performed, followed by transurethral resection of the bladder tumor, thus desobstructing both ureteral orifices and allowing to take away lhe nephrostomies. The diagnosis of bladder malacoplakia was made by histological examination of resected tissue. The disease remains controlled after a therapy with oral antibiotics, bethanecol and vitamin C in afollow-up of 12 months.

ABSTRACT
