Características sociodemográficas asociadas a la sobrecarga de los cuidadores de pacientes diabéticos en Cúcuta / Demographic characteristics associated with overload of caregivers of diabetic patients in Cúcuta

Introducción: Determinar la asociación entre las características sociodemográficas con el grado de sobrecarga en los cuidadores de pacientes diabéticos del Hospital Universitario ERASMO MEOZ durante el año del 2010 y primer semestre del 2011. Materiales y Métodos: Trabajo de investigación de abordaje cuantitativo descriptivo correlacional. Previa autorización de las directivas de la institución, de la verificación del cumplimiento de criterios de inclusión y de la participación voluntaria con consentimiento bajo información, se aplica en 252 cuidadores dos instrumentos caracterización sociodemográfica de los cuidadores y escala de sobrecarga del cuidador de Zarit. Resultados: Respecto a las características demográficas y grado de sobrecarga, se reportó asociación estadísticamente significativa en las variables género, edad, estado civil, ocupación, y horas de cuidado; contrario al nivel de escolaridad, estrato de la vivienda y parentesco en las que no encontró relación directa con la percepción de sobrecarga. Discusión y Conclusiones: En el estudio algunas variables del perfil sociodemográfico del cuidador y de la provisión del cuidado aparecen fuertemente relacionadas con la percepción de sobrecarga de éste. Lo encontrado plantea la necesidad de la participación de enfermería en la definición de estrategias concretas y comprometidas en el diagnostico precoz y tratamiento oportuno de los efectos adversos por sobrecarga, y en la adopción de medidas necesarias para su control.

Introduction: To determine the existent association among the sociodemographic characteristics with the burden stress level of caretakers of diabetic patients in the ERASMO MEOZ University Hospital during the year 2010 and the first semester of the year 2011. Materials and Methods: Quantitative research work of descriptive correlational approach. Previous approval by the board of directors of the institution on the verification of the compliance of standards of inclusion and voluntary participation with consent under knowledge applicable to 252 participant’s two tools (socio - demographic characterization of caregivers and Scale of Zarit caregiver burden). Results: Regarding the demographic characteristics and the degree of overload, a significant statistic of association was reported in the different variables such as gender, marital status, occupation, time and number of hours spent as a caretaker; contrary to their age, level of education and social status, in which there no direct relationship found with the perception of the burden. Discussion and Conclusions: In the study variables of socio – demographic profile of the caregiver and care provision are strongly related to this perception of overload. This finding raises the need for nursing involvement in the definition of specific strategies and committed in the early diagnosis and treatment of adverse effects due to overload, and measures for their control.

Entre la incertidumbre y la esperanza: Percepciones y motivaciones de los pacientes hospitalizados en la unidad de cuidados intensivos (UCI) / Between the uncertainty and the hope: perceptions and motivations of the patients hospitalized in the Unit of Intensive Cares (UCI)

La presente es una investigación de naturaleza cualitativa, fenomenológica, que tiene como objetivo conocer el significado de las vivencias del paciente durante su hospitalización en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) Dumián de la ESE Hospital Universitario Erasmo Meoz ( HUEM) con relación a su estado de salud. La muestra estuvo conformada por 3 pacientes mujeres seleccionadas con muestreo por conveniencia, los cuales cumplieron con criterios de inclusión, debían ser pacientes mayores de 18 años, sin secuelas neurológicas, con más de 8 días de hospitalización y aceptaran participar activamente en la investigación. Para la recoleción de información se utilizó la entrevista a profundidad como medio para la recolección de los datos. Los resultados más significativos que arrojó el estudio se encuentra la elección de 6 grandes dimensiones en las cuales se pudo agrupar la información suministrada por las participantes. Dentro de estas dimensiones se encontró que las pacientes desconocen el verdadero significado de la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI), el personal profesional de salud es fundamental para ellas, tienen muchas motivaciones para salir de allí, su principal base es la familia, tienen recuerdos negativos de una Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos (UCI) con sus familiares y no dejan a un lado sus raíces culturales, las cuales influyen en su hospitalización.

Present it it is an investigation of qualitative nature, fenomenológica, that takes as a target to Know the meaning of the experiences of the patient during his hospitalization in the Intensive care unit (UCI) Dumián of that of This University Hospital Erasmo Meoz (HUEM) in relation to his state of health. The sample was shaped by 3 patient women selected with sampling by expediency, which expired with inclusion criteria, they had to be patient older than 18 years, without neurological aftermath, with more than 8 days of hospitalization and they will accept to take part actively in the investigation. For the information compilation the interview was used to depth like way for the compilation of the information. The most significant results that the study threw there is the election of 6 big dimensions in which it was possible to group the information given by the participants. Inside these dimensions one found that the patients do not know the real meaning of the Intensive care unit (UCI), the health professional personnel is fundamental for them, they have many motivations to go out from there, his principal base is the family, they have negative memories of an Intensive care unit (UCI) with his relatives and do not leave aside his cultural roots, which influence his hospitalization.
