ABSTRACT

Objective@#To investigate the characteristics of HIV/AIDS cases among 15-24 year old population reported in Hefei from 2004 to 2022, so as to provide insights into AIDS control among adolescents.@*Methods@#The epidemiological data regarding HIV/AIDS cases between 15 and 24 years old reported in Hefei from 2004 to 2022 were captured from the AIDS comprehensive prevention and control information system of Chinese disease prevention and control information system, and data regarding temporal distribution, population distribution, and routes of infections and detection were descriptively analyzed by descriptive epidemiological methods.@*Results@#From 2004 to 2022, 865 cases of HIV/AIDS were reported in Hefei among 15-24 years old youth, accounting for 21.80% of the total reported cases. Among the HIV/AIDS patients, males accounted for 92.60%(801 cases), the unmarried ones accounted for 93.41% (808 cases),those with college degree or above accounted for 60.12% (520 cases),and 25.78%(223 cases) of them were students. The proportion of student cases increased annually( χ 2 trends =47.67, P <0.01). Homosexual transmission accounted for 81.39%, both showed an increasing trend( χ 2 trends =51.23, P <0.01).Totally 55.49% of cases were found through testing and consultation, and the proportion of cases increased by year( χ 2 trends =112.18, P <0.01). In 2004-2022,the number of newly reported cases among people aged 15-24 showed a rising trend at an average rate of 24.46% by year( Z=4.92, P <0.01), which was higher than the average rate of 21.54% for the entire population( Z=12.75, P <0.01).@*Conclusion@#The epidemic of HIV/AIDS among population aged 15-24 years is serious in Hefei. Comprehensive measures for HIV education and prevention intervention are desperately needed to be reinforced among targeted students.

ABSTRACT

Objective To improve the clinical prognosis of patients by reviewing ten years epidemiology data of acute poisoning inpatients. Methods The epidemiology data of the acute poisoning inpatients from 2006-2015 were retrospectively analyzed. The indexes including age, gender, nationality, geographical distribution, substance of poison, seasons, diagnosis and fee-for-service were collected. Results There were 1 083 patients with acute poisoning in total,624 cases (57.6%) for gas poisoning,213 cases (19.7%) for pesticide poisoning,136 cases (12.6%) for drug poisoning,74 cases (6.8%) for food poisoning and 36 cases for others. The ration of male to female was 0.94:1.The age of 31 to 45 range accounted for the highest proportion. The incidence of poisoning in 2011-2015 was significantly higher than that in 2006-2010 (P <0.05).The geographical distribution was also significantly different (P <0.05),most of the cases were in Shihezi city, then were Manasi and Sawan counties.Among the 1 083 patients,59% cases were cured,33.6% cases were improved after treatment, and the mortality rate was 2.6%.Feefor-service was also significantly increased in the older patients or males, and substance of poisoning dependent. The highest treatment cost was carbon monoxide poisoning, then were pesticide, drugs and food. Conclusions The common causes of poisoning in Shihezi city were carbon monoxide, organophosphorus pesticide, botulism and drugs, more emergency medical service should prevent poisoning and treat these patients.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the changes of serum high mobility group box 1 protein ( HMGB-1 ) in patients with traumatic acute lung injury (ALI) and determine its correlations with MODS,acute physiology and chronic health evaluation ( APACHE Ⅱ ) scores and whether it can predict the incidence of MODS and mortality. Methods Forty cases of ALI were divided into MODS group (n =13) and nonMODS group (n =27) according to the MODS evaluation standard. The serum HMGB-1 was determined in the control group ( 10 healthy persons) and the MODS and non-MODS groups at days 1,4 and 7.The MODS and APACHE Ⅱ scores were also evaluated. Results Between the groups, the HMGB-1 level at days 1,4 and 7 in non-MODS group was higher than that in the control group, while lower than that in MODS group (P<0.05).Within the non-MODS group, the expression of HMGB-1 showed a high level at day 4 compared with that at day 1 ( P <0.01 ) ; the HMGB-1 showed a low level at day 7 with clinical symptom improvement compared with that at day 4,and was even lower than that at day 1 ( P < 0.01 ).Within the MODS group, the serum HMGB-1 level was significantly increased, and continued for several days; the HMGB-1 was decreased slightly at day 7 in comparison with that at day 4,but was still higher than that at day 1.The difference of MODS and APACHE Ⅱ score was significant, with the dynamic change of HMGB-1 level at days 1,4 and 7 after traumatic ALI.The correlative analysis showed that HMGB-1 expression level was remarkably related with MODS score and APACHE Ⅱ score. Conclusions HMGB-1 shows a high expression in patients with traumatic ALI.As a late mediator of inflammation,HMGB-1 usually increases relatively late and lasts for a long duration.HMGB-I level and concurrency MODS are closely related.Routine test of serum HMGB-1 level and joint assessment of MODS and APACHE Ⅱ score are contributive to the prediction of organ dysfunction after traumatic ALI.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the effect of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K) inhibitor wortmannin on expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) in bronchiole epithelial cells of asthma rat.METHODS: 24 male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into 3 group, namely control group, asthma group and PI3K inhibitor wortmannin+asthma group. The numbers of total cells and eosinophil cells in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) were counted. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase was detected by immunohistochemistry method, and iNOS mRNA was detected by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The activity of PI3K, iNOS and content of NO in lung homogenates were tested by spectrophotometry.RESULTS: The numbers of eosinophils and the ratios of eosinophils to total cells in BALF in asthma group were significantly higher than those in control group, while those in wortmannin+asthma group were decreased compared to asthma group. The activity of PI3K, iNOS and content of NO in lung homogenats in asthma group were significantly higher than those in control group, while those in wortmannin+asthma group were decreased compared to asthma group. The expression of iNOS protein in bronchiole epithelial cells and mRNA in lung homogenates in asthma group were markedly increased compared to control group, while those in wortmannin+asthma group were decreased compared to asthma group.CONCLUSION: PI3K regulates the expression of iNOS in airway of asthma rat and affects inflammatory reaction in airway.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the effect of roxithromycin on the NF-?B activity, the airway inflammation and bronchial hyperresponsiveness of asthma rats.METHODS: Thirty male adult Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the control group(Group C,n=10),asthma group(Group A,n=10) and roxithromycin group(Group R,n=10).The asthma model was induced by ovalbumin and Al(OH)3.The airway reactivity was detected and then rats in each group were sacrificed after 24 hours for the last provocation. The concentrations of IL-4,IL-5 and IFN-? in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid(BALF) were measured by ELISA,and the activity of NF-?B protein in bronchial epithelium was detected by immunohistochemistry.RESULTS: Compared with Group C,the airway reactivity in Group A was increased(P
